Synopsis
Atom User Reviews
An idealistic public defender (John Boyega) gets drawn into a drug heist. This convoluted exercise in moral relativism succeeds at wasting almost all of the considerable talent involved while attempting to make too many statements and also sound smart/deep/literary. Some interesting photography and Boyega's self-deprecating charm can't save this overblown, under-thought adaptation from a novel. Also, why are Olivia's Cooke's nipples visible in every shot? Once is okay, but every time is a gimmick, like this entire film.
Metacritic
Not even John Boyega’s solid performance can salvage Naked Singularity, a thinly sketched, disappointingly generic crime thriller.
The concept might have worked well on paper. But on screen, at least how Chase Palmer has directed and co-scripted it, those clashing elements exert weak gravitational pull.
Naked Singularity is the work of an untested filmmaker who knows how to streamline but lacks the chutzpah to swing for the fences.
