Atom User Reviews for Motherless Brooklyn
Good movie overall, it's not fast paced, but also not slow. Edward Norton shows how good of an actor he is
Great cast good story
Good story, good plot, good actors. But fairly slow pace and muted resolutions. Plays like an old school detective flick but doesn't quite pull it off - just feels too modern, like it didn't fully commit to the period.
One of the best movies I have seen in a long time!
I found this movie intriguing. The scary thing about it was that it reminded me of Trump's behavior uhhhh!
Edward Norton at his best.
I can’t believe that Edward Norton wrote, produced, directed, and starred in this!! I’m so impressed. The storyline was great. Surprises throughout. Mysteries. Fantastic dialogue. Subtle humour. If you like jazz, you’ll love seeing this in the theatre.
Great story but the movie was just too slow. And the dream he had when he was in the water, etc. wasn't necessary for this type of story. What role did the Horowitz character play at all?? It was so slow that it didn't flow. Someone else should try again to make a movie from that story. And please, tell Alec Baldwin to try not to act like Trump all the time.
Motherless Brooklyn has all the markers of a good Oscar-season movie: a talented cast, worthy source material, a script loaded with complex social issues. Even so, it doesn’t add up to much.
Norton earns praise for taking on the gargantuan task of bringing this story to the screen, and pulling quadruple duty as actor-director-writer-producer, but Motherless Brooklyn seems more like a blueprint of a great film that lacks the nuance it needs to be truly impactful.
Ultimately, frustration and fatigue prevail over the film’s intellectual acuity and political insight; neither is any true emotion ever forthcoming. This is odd and disappointing.
