Atom User Reviews for Met Summer Encore: Madama Butterfly (2018)
Fantastic production. The use of the marionets was creative and very well done.
Middle aged Caucasian playing a 15 yr old Asian in love with an American in Japan all singing in Italian. What’s not to like
Wish the lead was a young woman of Asian decent and not a middle aged Caucasian woman.
The show, as always with the Met Live in HD, was great. The one star is strictly for Regal Fairfax Towne Center, in Fairfax, VA. Despite my complaint, the show was out of focus the entire time. They usually get it right, but this time they got it very wrong.
Staging unusual, this is a "winner"
Great singing and music.
We had to leave after the first act as my date was too emotional to continue.
next best thing to being at the Lincoln Center - the center of the universe for operas.
AMC Century City sound and screen were excellent. Same with the singing, staging, costuming and story, with informative titles. Puccini famously always searched for good librettos. This is one of his best.
One of my favorite operas, I loved it.
Production values of this HD presentation are superb. For what it's worth, this was 1st opera I'd ever seen, and it seemed long, especially the 1st act.
Our 1st time, not our last! Thanks to all who brings Opera to the tgeater!
wonderful music
First time seeing Madama Butterfly, but this must be as good as it gets!
An Excellent production which included Japanese arts which made the event wonderful
Better heard than seen, at least up close. The soprano is too regal for the part; the tenor too old.
Best way to see a beautiful Met production other than actually being in New York. Loved it! Cant wait to see the other operas on the big screen.
Phenomenal staging and singing
wonderful music and voices. The puppet child was a little creepy at first, but the puppeteers were masterful, so he grew on me. absolutely beautiful costumes and set design. Thanks, Met , for the encore!
Dramatically enthralling; beautiful musically; a wonderful evening!
Fabulous
Opera on screen is a gift!
Highly creative production. Wonderful cast. Beautiful.
Gut wrenching story, fabulous cast draws you in
Loved the beautiful singing of leading lady. The music was excellent. How can you be wrong with Puccini.
What a wonderful way to see real Opera with great stars!!! Feeel like we were in New York!!
A wonderful production!
Superb
