i love every inch of this heavy-handed, poorly shot, badly sung masterpiece to pieces and it makes me wanna believe in god
clownheadJan 14, 2013I wouldn't say I 'watched' Les Misérables. I kind of just sat in front of it and waited. And waited. And waited.

micaSep 22, 2020ok. this is approximately my 13th rewatch of les mis. almost everyone i respect says the movie is bad. finally starting to accept that maybe my abject affection for it is a glaring critical blindspot. at the same time, it still gives me genuine chills! the 3 song stretch…

pretty gay of javert to do a death drop from there
clownheadJan 12, 2026Generational fumble. Every bit the directorial disaster that Cats was; the only reason this isn't as maligned is because the source material is actually good

Not as good as the original play, that’s for sure. Russel Crowe is not good in this movie, Hugh Jackman could’ve damaged his vocal chords from dehydration, and the director of this movie thought it would be a good idea to record the singing live (he went on to direct Cats).
5.79/10. I’m sorry I really wanted to like this. But there is just too much singing for me. The overall story is great and acting is great too. But there’s only like 10 lines in a 2.5 hour movie that just normal speaking. Broadway shows have less singing than this.

Despite its faults, the story of "Les Misérables" is timeliness for a reason. There is something special about Claude-Michel Schönberg's music that makes you stand up to attention which makes the film enjoyable in spite of its imperfections.
I love musicals, so of course I loved the music in this movie. No where near perfect and Russell Crowe’s voice is something else, man. Dude was a confusing casting choice, that’s for sure.

I love this movie. It is so dramatic and sad and interesting. I love musicals and they are basically singing the whole time in this movie. There are so many good actors and singers in this movie.
