Tom Hardy does do a fantastic job playing two different characters at the same time. The problem is the story, it feels like it never really takes off. Yes, there are some tense moments, but apart from that, it is mostly uneventful. Overall a mostly forgettable gangster film.
Ultimo_Joe likedLegendGreat movie. Didn’t even know it was a true story. The plot was great and the acting from Tom Hardy as both characters was fantastic. I really thought the film had nowhere to go after Frances dies but my word it took a turn and I loved it. Nice to know this actually happened.
Squid likedLegendI only “liked” this film because I saw no story basis other than making known of the brothers themselves. One trying to live his life and find love while taking care of the brother with mental issues. In a gangster era it comes in handy while trying to rise up. Tom Hardy 🤌👍.

Alex likedLegendIn terms of the gangster genre, Legend has all the ingredients. Hardy was superb especially given the technical challenge of playing two people and effectively interacting with himself so convincingly. Credit to the film-makers in that regard too. I also like about the movie how.

Legend seems like a movie Scorsese might have made if he wasn’t paying attention - the elements are present but they are clumsily assembled and the outcome underwhelms.

For all Hardy’s expressive detail and physical creativity, Helgeland’s chewy, incident-packed script offers little insight into what made either of these contrasting psychopaths tick, or finally explode.

This ungainly portrait strikes a lot of poses, as if inviting the viewer to admire its impressive cast list, fine period detailing, cheeky British humor, and insouciant attitude towards violence. But none of it disguises the fact that the film is also tonally incoherent, vacuous and structurally a bleedin' mess.
