Moviegoers are saying
Sean Baker's intimate exploration of family dynamics and cultural identity has struck a chord with audiences who praise its authentic portrayal of generational trauma and feminist themes. While some viewers found the ending abrupt and the pacing challenging, most were moved by the film's deeply human approach to depicting Asian family structures and the weight of inherited expectations.

The strengths of this slender film, which Tsou co-wrote with Baker, stem from its authentic rendition of daily life in a bustling metropolis.

Regardless of some of the screenplay hiccups and deus ex machina plopped from the sky, “Left-Handed Girl” still announces Tsou as a confident directorial talent with a rare exuberance.
