Eli Roth said this movie was “like a surreal David Lynch movie.” And now I’m fairly certain Eli Roth has never seen a David Lynch movie.

Keep her? I barely know her!
Haunted HippieJul 24, 2025I like the atmosphere Oz Perkins creates in his movies, but usually not much else. Keeper might be his oddest movie yet, and none of it worked for me. Much of what was happening was repetitive and there wasn’t much substance to the story. Tatiana Maslany is great with what…
Jake Alda CoffeyNov 11, 2025can someone write Perkins a halfway decent screenplay please?! we all know at this point that his game as instructor is okay for the genre texture, but why is he tackling these below mediocre writings? most of them his own, you gotta add, so there was hope for something…

The thesis is super clear, the mood and vibes are spot on Perkins. If you like his stuff, you’ll dig this movie. Love the designs so much. It’s a trip for sure, more reminiscent of his earlier flicks.
5.3 - I just can’t figure Os Perkins out. I don’t dislike anything of his I’ve seen, but for someone with so much style & such unique vision, his end products are just so inconsistent. I can’t help but feel it may be an issue of using different writers, and maybe he just needs to settle into a…

First off, Oz Perkins has a very indelible talent for creating an atmosphere of dread. From the start you feel that something is wrong. The dread intensifies as snippets of the reality emerge. In the final act you are rewarded with the horror in full view. Is it the end????
A great slow burn horror that gets paid off at the end. Loved all the camera angles and constant tension throughout. This movie was truly one of a kind and the creatures were something out of a nightmare. 8.5/10

This was good in the way that it was scary and tense and unsettling so they did a good job there but I wasn’t a huge fan of the overall premise. It was very confusing and left so many plot holes and things left unanswered. This was a fun theatre watch though, and the scene where they led her into…
I went in with low expectations and ended up really enjoying it. It’s better than Longlegs for sure. It’s a slow build up and if you go in blind, that’s a fun way to start out. The practical effects are really creepy and it has some fun lore. While it def won’t be one of my favorite movies, it is a…

It wasn’t scary at all, and boring at times. I want my money back.
Was a great movie and lots of action

Ultimately, one suspects Perkins views Liz’s dilemma as little more than an excuse to construct a fun exercise in nightmare inducement that possesses the same craftsmanship that Malcolm clearly put into his swanky cabin. Each is a sight to see and neither is worth visiting for too long.
To add insult to injury, just when things are finally about to get nasty, a character effectively sits us down for a tedious exposition dump that explains the whats, whys and hows of it all. It’s this very lack of trust in its viewers that comes as the film’s most upsetting development.
