Atom User Reviews for Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration
Poor editing, would have liked seeing the whole finale. Could have been better song choices. Los Lobos was great, Seal good. Could have skipped Rufus altogether. Why didn't they give Emmylou a better song choice? Brandi Carlyle was great-she should have gotten more songs.
Loved it. People who are picking it apart one performance at a time really don't get the big picture. They were honoring the writer, the painter, the composer, the singer.
What an experience! All the performers did a terrific job interpreting Joni’s music. Such talent! My only regret was that Joni did not speak at the performance so that we could hear what she sounds like today.
Song choices were not great (although well delivered by the artists)....editing was poor and ending was poor and abrupt. Only reason to give it 3 stars was how moving it was to see Joni get this tribute.
I loved it..No doubt there is so much more in the can that likely will be added to a sequel of some variety at some point, including interviews.
Her music is so beautiful. Seal, Los Lobos, and Chaka Khan, much to my surprise, honored her music explicitly💜
A true tribute that Joni would approve of. The performers took the source material and made it their own! So creative and heartfelt
The theater was full of Joni admirers. The vibe was excellent. The performers of Joni's songs were amazing and pouring their hearts out. At times even my husband got choked up. I had tears multiple times. We would clap following some of the performances. All in all an unforgettable experience.
poor editing, song selection didn't match wi big name talent abilities.
A group of the most beautiful voices honoring Joni on her 75th birthday, just OUTSTANDING! What a wonderful generation we have all shared together. We have been blessed with wonderful musicians and storytellers. Joni's gift stood above most. Joni's 75th moved me!
Loved it including visuals of Joni & her paintings. Brandi, Chaka, Los Lobos, Seal, et al brought their best. Not 5 stars because I wanted more of her up-beat songs.
Tears for joy and sadness!
Beautiful tribute and 75th birthday celebration of Joni Mitchell’s music
Delicious
Such a splendid tribute to this truly artistic soul.
I was in LA for both nights, so I loved seeing the up close shots. The audio was FABULOUS.
Great music but could be edited better
A great celebration of Joni's music and art performed in ways I've never heard better, other than Joni herself, of course! Diana Krall was outstanding. I'm so glad I got to see this.
Agreed, but weak artist selection, video production shoddy, pretty flat performances by Diana Krall, Emmy Lou, Norah Jones 2nd. I could do w/o Rufus altogether. Seal was cool Brandi Carlisle, Kris K, Chaka Kahn! JT....though I wasn't as blown away by his performance. Did you see Graham Nash's gesture as he was moving off stage, just kinda flipped a 'whatever' shrug of the shoulders.....Joni was only there the 2nd night, and is sadly in really bad health, glad she made it through...god bless you Joni, thanks for your amazing music!
If you see it there's stuff to like, if you don't, you didn't miss much. A few of the songs were great and a few not so much...
I have been a huge Joni Mitchell fan for many years! It was wonderful to be able to see her being paid fitting tribute on her 75th birthday! She has touched the heart and soul of so many lives like none other!
A little slow moving. Los Lobos brought it up a notch. Seal's velvet voice was amazing. Would have liked more Emmy Lou Harris and Kris Kristofferson. Was an hour late getting started - not good.
Terrific concert and a fitting tribute to Joni Mitchell’s genius
Parts were blurry. Wished even more artists performed.
Wonderful line-up of excellent musicians. Breathtaking arrangements of Joni's masterpieces. Enjoyed every minute.
Very moving. Wonderful musicians. A lovely evening.
Excellent tribute to an amazing woman!!!!!
Wonderful tribute to Joni!
Love Joni, love her art, love her songs. Camera work gave me an upset stomach, fading in and out, moving in and out of focus, shaking too much.
Great performances. Especially liked Chaka Khan backing up Los Lobos on Dreamland. Agree with the others that the video editing and especially the focus pulling could have been better. I do understand it is *really* hard to video live concerts, but this was LA, right? I understand they have people with camera talent there.
Good film overall. Editing was rough in a few places but the musicians honoring Joni came across well. I reccomend seeing it.
Enjoyed it very much.
Great show
only issue is not seeing the whole last song. overall, great performances, interesting selection and good direction.
Delivery of the film at the theater was a complete FAIL! I left after a half an hour wait. Beyond disappointed.
Fabulous tribute to an exceptional artist !!
OMG, this brought me back to my early twenties, so many memories of love and good times. It was a time I still knew how to give my heart!
A rare opportunity to enjoy iconic artists revere one of their own and one of the very best at what she does. The tenderness of the Kristofferson & Carlile duet showcased the profound respect of intergenerational artists and musicians. Los Lobos with LaMerisoul & Chaka Khan was electric. And, of course, Nash and Taylor could not have been any more tenderhearted. (and Joni's reaction to Nash) The only question is WTF was Wainwright there for?
Watched with both joy and sadness ...,remembering the early days and early albums from our youth. The years have intruded on sweet memories and I am reminded of my own finite life. Joni's music is certainly her legacy. Did not especially care for many of the song choices or covers.Editing was choppy. However, I would never miss anything Joni
Loved it!!!!
Loved it!
Absolutely wonderful performances! A moving tribute to a great talent!
Nice nostalgia. Amazing singers and musicians doing complicated music. The jumpy, variable focus cinematography was distracting.
