There was a brief moment — right around the release of “Resident Evil: Retribution,” and the discourse about “vulgar auteurism” that peaked along with it — when it seemed as though Paul W.S. Anderson had found a way to weaponize the nü-metal nothingness of his blockbuster…
davidehrlichMar 7, 2025PWSA is a poet of hideous CGI landscapes, the painter of soft, hazy light. Monster Hunter, for all its buddy-movie joys, got away from his talent for impressionist computery muck. the world of In the Lost Lands is inspiringly repugnant. this is not a George Miller-style…
estherMar 10, 2025Part garish post-apocalyptic travelogue, part steampunk western, part dark fantasy epic, part creature feature, part video game cut scene, 100% PWSA being an insane person. The clunky dialogue might be more unbearable if the images and closeups weren’t so striking. They…

25 Jesus, this is dreadful. PWSA's sensibilities of unnatural landscapes, abstracted action, and video game fluidity reach a new level of garishness with In the Lost Lands. You can really feel the budget here, with z-grade compositing, stilted dialogue, stock performances…
SilentDawnMar 9, 2025👁️ the eye of milla = the eye of providence 𓂀 everything in anderson's cinema extends from the vision of his beloved, a gaze which looms over these lost lands and pierces the veil of pomegranate secrets. finally we see her in a truer form: no longer the puppet of the…

This begins with a shimmering, blueish green background as a figure steps into frame revealing the most beautiful close-up of Dave Bautista I’ve ever seen. He asks if I have time to hear a story and brother, I was immediately all in. So many stunning extreme closeups of…
Brandon StreussnigMar 6, 2025i feel sure that pwsa was inspired by prabhas (kalki, salaar, saaho), albert pyun, the last witch hunter, beowulf 1999 starring christopher lambert, pitch black, cheap 80's fantasy novels, and then to top it off had to make it a western also. there's just nothing like being…

Paul Anderson? Milla Jovovich? George R.R. Martin? All great yet disappointing personalities, like the movie itself. I love fantasy, but I don't know if that's what I can call this completely manufactured nonsense. It started better than expected and then nosedived off the rails harder than the…
Pretty good flick. This is the second film. I’ve seen with Dave Bautista playing in a post apocalyptic role. He’s pretty good at it. This film had a good story, decent set design with some pretty good backdrops and visual effects. Good character, development, and some good actors. It’s a Good Watch.

An incomprehensible eyesore that tries to resemble Mad Max world building but completely misses the mark. It collapses under dull storytelling and a convoluted plot. The entire endeavor looks like it was made by AI, from the bland dialogue to ugly wasteland environment. 1.5
This felt like a cross between Resident Evil, Wild Wild West, Mad Max, Underworld, and just about every other post apocalyptic movie. It doesn’t really bring anything new or have an original idea. Not mad that I watched it but I wouldn’t recommend it or rewatch it.

If you go in with low expectations like I did and try not to think too much about the plot, it's enjoyable. I won't give it a super high score because it seemed unfinished and the cgi wasn't great but it was a good watch. 7.1/10
This is kind of a weird movie that has its ups and downs. Overall I enjoyed the movie. It has some great fight scenes and I really enjoy both of them so it’s great having them together in a movie!

If you like shameless fun, or want to give it a shot, this flick is for you. Does the ending entirely make sense? I'll let you be the judge (no, it doesn't). But you have enough fun getting there that you might not mind.
Basically an action/romantic movie about a witch and a werewolf??? I had so many questions but didn’t care for answers.
Metacritic
Neither Bautista nor Jovovich can elevate this ugly-looking misfire. Fans of entertaining fantasy action need not apply.
For sheer unadulterated geekiness, it’s got few contemporary equals.
It’s a grim slog through the wastelands of human civilization, which makes a big deal about the generic parts and glosses over all the thrilling weirdness.
