I have a canker sore on my left tonsil. Every time I move anything, eat anything, or swallow it feels like someone is stabbing my throat. Based on past experiences I’m assuming I got it because of stress. It’s finals week, I’m applying for internships, I’m in the midst of…
KarstenDec 4, 2019one of the only movies about “the magic of the movies” that actually captures just how miraculous cinema can be. a way for us to connect together, even just for a few hours, to see worlds and images that were considered impossible. it moves me beyond words to know that one…

mulaneyDec 4, 2019A profound love letter to the art of cinema and its history: The creation of cinema, the evolution of cinema, and the importance of the preservation of cinema. Scorsese channels his inner Spielberg while delivering what is not only one of his absolute best pictures, but one…

A funny thing about watching movies as a father of two children is that anything in a movie that even speaks to the relationship between a father and a child makes me cry now, which is to say that this movie made me weep.
Jamelle BouieOct 19, 2023there are very few movies out there that look this good. one of the only others i can think of is spielberg's west side story. looking back, it really feels like we cracked something about incorporating digital VFX in that 2009-2012 era and then lost it. the perpetual steam…

Kind of forgettable, but it’s such a good way to spread the importance of film to younger audiences

Perfectly captures the wonders of Movies and exploring the unknown and recreating the beauty in every being
A whimsical and charming movie about purpose and the magic of the movies, and a great story in its own right too. Great visuals, camera work, and memorable performances help bring the movie to life. And it has a character named Monsieur Frick. What's not to like? I like the subtle humor…

The only movie I ever remember falling asleep while watching. Don’t remember much besides a notebook, but probably won’t watch again.
good for background noise while you aimlessly scroll on your phone, i guess 🤷🏼♂️

An exhilarating tale of magic, machines, memories, and dreams, Martin Scorsese pulls off the neatest trick of all. He marshals the marvels of modern movie technology - up to and including the dreaded 3-D - to create a love letter to the earliest of movies and, by extension, to every movie from then to now.
The result is a movie that's kinetic yet slow, whose joys are architectural more than spiritual.
It's a complex fusion of film history and personal history, filled with dazzling embellishments and unabashed sentiment about the glories of cinema.
