timtamtitusNov 12, 2024Having Paul Mescal essentially be Maximus 2.0 sounds like a cool idea, but it’s ultimately a reminder that very few actors had the level of magnetism Crowe had in 2000. Wouldn’t say he is sauceless and the script rehashing the first movie isn’t doing his characters any…

23.11.2024 I was not entertained. This movie was literally only swordporn with quotes it stole from the first movie and lots of promising plot lines leading absolutely nowhere. Also love the fact that the only thing female characters are there for is dying an unnecessarily death

6.5/10 I’d watch Gladiator again, but probably not Gladiator 2. Some scenes lacked logic. Loved the intro though, I was instantly captivated. Great actors, although somehow I didn’t enjoy Connie N. VERY graphic scenes, too much.
A barbarian to rate, I want to give it praise for the rare Ridley Scott scale, but it has a very bad case of 'on-the-spot plot' and connecting itself to the first does more damage than good. Quotes, costumes, combat, and a colosseum of CGI animals, I love it all. Ridley solidified his stance on…

As a Fan of the original Gladiator, I feel the continuation was perfectly executed. Incorporating characters of the original film, amazingly done. I went in expecting a horrible sequel and it ended up surprising me. Great job on the film! Will probably go and see it again this weekend.
The sequel no one asked for

Washington has the most fun, swishing about in dangling jewels and flowing robes, while Mescal—one of our best young actors—struggles to define Lucius outside of Crowe’s shadow. As for the relentless fights and battles, I found them to be increasingly tedious—even the wild ones with animals, given their reliance on CGI effects.
All of Ridley Scott's glorious pageantry is undercut by a script tragically burdened by cliches and characters who make stupid choices.
Like so many latter-day Ridley Scott films, Gladiator II at once feels half-baked and overstuffed, and the lack of internal consistency robs its action of sustained tension and its comedy of bite.
