Little happens - save for several family arguments and the artist worrying about money and the integrity of his ambition - yet it is unforgettable, and, shot to look like a moving Vermeer painting, effortlessly profound.
He ultimately cared more for the painting than for her. It had some really pretty scenes, the moment where they did the Pearl painting was beautiful. However it felt anxiety filled. I don’t know if it’s young scarlets acting but it felt like a thriller at times. 5.5/10 🪿

It was fine. We all know the book was better, but it’s been a decade since I read it so it was nice to hop back into 17th century Dutch life. Might dust off the book and reread it…
Boring but interesting. This is my favorite art piece. Always has been. Would I suggest to someone this movie ? No, unless they are driven by motivation lol and curiosity

Beautiful take on this movie. loved it. makes jaw drop at how few words you need in a movie for it to be good
I’ve liked it but what a sad story… fair enough cause at that time I think there were many many sad stories

The actress (Scarlett Johansson) gives a nearly silent performance, yet the interplay on her face of fear, ignorance, curiosity, and sex is intensely dramatic.
This is an art film in spades.
An intelligent, visually ravishing adaptation of Tracy Chevalier's best-selling novel.
