Trivia

  • During the 1990s, Dan Aykroyd's concept for a third Ghostbusters film revolved around the Ghostbusters traveling to an alternate, hellish version of New York City. Columbia Pictures balked at the proposed $150m budget. Ultimately, Ghostbusters (2016) ended up with a $144m budget, although inflation means it cost less than Aykroyd's proposed sequel.

Goofs

  • When you see the second shot of the outside of the Chinese restaurant/Ghostbusters base of operation (right after the subway train encounter), you can see the Ecto in the garage...this is before they even got the car from Patty. However, this mistake was digitally removed for the Blu-ray release.

Quotes

This Ghostbusters doesn’t lazily insert the actresses into the original characters’ roles, instead taking the time to come up with new dynamics — and far more pathos — for this quartet.

Warts and all, the new Ghostbusters is still one of the best tentpoles of the summer (admittedly, that’s not saying much). It doesn’t tarnish the legacy of the original movie, and its own legacy might have been even stronger if it hadn’t worried about paying homage to the old Ghostbusters quite so intensely.

It's all busy-ness, noise and chaos, with zero thrills and very little sustainable comic buoyancy.
