It’s obvious Del Toro really loves the source material. It’s a prime example of good adapting from one medium to another. On the filmmaking side it’s dark yet colorful, the costuming is fantastical, it uses a lot of practical effects, only using CGI where absolutely necessary, an all around well-made film.
