Keep in mind that the movie is slice of life, ordinary day things genre. The movie is not “slow”, it’s a slice of life day to day

A silly and humorous take on a very bittersweet tale. Kinda like a live action indie of troubled life wrapped in a family-friendly Japanese animation. Like Tokyo Godfathers.

Beautiful backgrounds and colorful characters compliment a plot that's different than most anime movies. Unfortunately the coming-of-age story has been overdone in live-action cinema, and this film doesn't add anything new to the formula. I felt some feels, but ultimately the half-hour mini-series, "Deji Meets Girl", tacked on after the credits was more entertaining than the movie

Misshapen parts and all, “Fortune Favors” fulfills its purpose as a joyfully eccentric tribute to personal authenticity.

Although she is buoyant and cheerful, Nikuko is cast as oafish and uncouth, and she is always ultimately the butt of the joke. It’s a puerile, mean-spirited tendency that altogether spoils the otherwise exquisite imagery.

Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko succeeds where so many other movies like it fail simply by making its characters seem real enough to be going through a series of familiar growing pains.
