  • Goku is revealed to have mastered Ultra Instinct.

  • According to director Tatsuya Nagamine, Akira Toriyama had written a screenplay that was 3 hours long, but the film only runs for 2 hours, so Nagamine and animation director Naohiro Shintani collaborated with Toriyama to analyze what can be kept in the film and what has to be dropped due to running time purposes. However, there are some scenes that were animated but cut from the final theatrical film which will be added to the Blu-Ray and DVD release.
  • Toei Animation decided for this film to use traditional methods like drawing most of the film by hand but still working with CGI to improve some details. Dragon Ball Super (2015) and the two previous Dragon Ball films Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (2013) and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' (2015) had used extensive computer-generated and digital animation.
  • This is the third Dragon Ball film to be released on IMAX, after the two previous Dragon Ball films Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (2013) and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' (2015). The animation studio is animating it using a special software, for the IMAX format.
  • Toei Animation knows the cultural impact the franchise has all over the world, so in order to avoid piracy, spoilers and fans worldwide can enjoy the film sooner, the studio delivered to several countries around the world the film with the animation still unfinished, this was so the Dubbing Studios on USA, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, etc, could start to work on the dub of the film so it can be released on the same date as in Japan.
  • When Akira Toriyama began to write Dragon Ball Super (2015), he was reluctant about adding the character Broly to the franchise, instead he wrote a character named Kale, who is a Saiyan, as an homage to Broly. However one of the series producers in early 2017 convinced him to add Broly into the series, so he wrote a new story for Broly and drew a new design, so this version could be different from the original films.
  • Tatsuya Nagamine allowed the animators to experiment, and allowed as much computer-generated animation as possible.

  • Frieza has pink skin in this feature. This comes from Akira Toriyama's original manga, while in the anime adaptation Dragon Ball Z (1989) he had purple skin.

  • Tatsuya Nagamine had taken a vacation to Amalfi, Italy. He used his vacation photos from his trip as inspiration for Bulma's vacation home.
  • In this film Broly bears two significant marks on his body: a scar on the upper left of his abs, and a giant cross-shaped scar on his left pec. These reference his defeat in his previous appearances: Goku struck him in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan (1993), and his heart exploded out his chest in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming (1994).

  • The Saiyan God from Universe 18 is revealed to be the inventor of Ultra Instinct.
  • Broly had previously appeared in the Dragon Ball films Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan (1993) and Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming (1994). Akira Toriyama had designed him for those films. The time-travel and multiverse aspects of Dragon Ball Super (2015) presented him an opportunity to redo Broly the way he wanted.
  • This will be Gogeta (an alternate fusion of Goku and Vegeta)'s second appearance in a DB film after Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (1995).
  • On early October 2018, a second trailer was released, this time focusing on the origin of the Saiyans, it revealed that Goku's origin was changed causing some confusion and controversy with the fans since Dragon Ball Z had already told how Goku arrived to the Earth, HOWEVER, Akira Toriyama has stated on several ocassions that he is only considering for Dragon Ball Super and beyond what he wrote on the original manga and part of Dragon Ball Z Kai, while leaving the original show as non canon, and also, the film is adapting what he wrote on a mini manga called Dragon Ball Minus (2011), which told the real story about Goku's origins.
  • The film will be Goku's mother, Gine, debut on the anime.
  • A controversy surfaced when it was shown that Goku's origin was changed from the one shown on Dragon Ball Z. However, it was later explained that the story told on Dragon Ball Z, despite that Toriyama liked it, it's not canon to what he wrote on the manga. In 2014 Toriyama wrote a mini manga titled "Dragon Ball Minus" which told the REAL origins of Goku, this manga is being taken as reference for Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

  • It is never explained, where Berryblue and Kikono were at the events of the Freeza's Arc in Dragon Ball Z and Resurrection F Arc in Dragon Ball Super, it can be assumed that since both aren't fighters and that in Dragon Ball Z Freeza's Army was big enough they might had been on another planet, while in Dragon Ball Super, Freeza was looking just for revenge he may not have considered appropriate to bring them aboard.
  • Goku and Vegeta never realize the resamblance that Broly has with Kale, despite that she has a brief cameo.
  • Despite that the ULTRA INSTINCT and the SSJ BLUE EVOLVED never appear nor are mentioned, Goku apparently tries tu use it but fails and turns into the SSJ BLUE.
  • Contrary to the three original films, Broly is not killed and becomes friends with Goku.

  • The Bardock Squad seen in the OVA, Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku, have a small cameo on this film, they are seen when Freeza is studying the Ki level of the Saiyans for the first time.
  • Chili and Lemo are the first members of Freeza's Army to abandon it willingly (unless one counts Vegeta).
  • From the three original Broly films, the only characters that don't appear and fought against Broly or encountered him face to face are Gohan, A-18, Mr. Satan, Oolong, Master Roshi, Videl and Future Trunks.
