  • The minivan that Sawyer and his family are seen inside in two different scenes has a no smoking logo on the dashboard. This is typical of US rental cars, but almost never seen in personal vehicles. The fact that it is shown being driven by Sawyer's mother on two different days in Sawyer's home town indicates the minivan was supposed to be the family car.

Informative, morally complex and supremely well-intentioned, it generally sidesteps sentimentality for appealingly straightforward storytelling.

The whole thing just works; the film gets pretty close to the Platonic ideal of accessible but still meaningful edutainment. And in a movie landscape that's aggressively dumbed down and cynical, a little integrity goes a long way.

Even more so than last time out, Smith focuses a great deal of attention on the details—the day-to-day minutiae of the facility’s rescue and rehab work that elevate what could have otherwise been another well-intentioned but soggy fish-out-of-water yarn.
