Emo batman wishes he was as tortured as darkman... 90s action was just better. -Bruce Campbell cameo ❤ -Helicopter chase -Gratuitous explosions -Casual nunchuk usage -Evil henchmen and Liam having an identity crisis -This mofo is 3D printing in 1990 What's not to love!
KatMar 3, 2013The movie that always gets forgotten when people put together lists of the best superhero movies of all time -- probably because the character is invented for the screen, rather than adapted to it. And, maybe because its "hero" is a self-described "monster" with a gruesome…
Matt SingerWanna know what the best Liam Neeson moment ever is? Four words... "Take the fucking elephant."

Pulsates with its influences and its originality, Raimi’s Darkman is a sadistic cartoon tragedy—a Grand Guinol top of his game Raimi genre menagerie that’s just about the perfect kind of pulpy universal horror mad scientist superhero funhouse movie for idiots like…
Ian WestApr 3, 2023Pulpy comic book mad science/noir super-heroics meets genuinely tragic Universal Monster horror; everything in here from Phantom of the Opera to The Invisible Man to Frankenstein to The Wolf Man. Raimi has such a genius eye for fluid, animated visuals (crazy how much of…
Josh LewisMar 25, 2024Raimi’s visual language is so fitting for a movie like Darkman— a movie that feels like a fusion of the lunacy of Evil Dead and your classic monster movie tropes. Liam Neeson is strangely the weakest link here, but the movie’s willingness to be both a zany superhero movie…

What a delightful, strange little movie. A cross between a Universal monster flick and a superhero film—Batman if he were more Man Bat than Bat Man—it hits familiar story beats while distinguishing itself with fun (and offen gross) practical effects and the strong visual…
Jamelle BouieMar 28, 2022Raimi in pure De Palma mode, throwing every cinematic trick he’s got onto the screen and relishing in the unbridled melodrama at the heart of this pulpy, high camp, horror-tinged superhero origin story, still one of the best and most creative of its kind. A marvel.
anna nomalyMay 7, 2022I screamed when Bruce Campbell showed up lmao, and my god… Sam Raimi could make a trip to the grocery store look like the most exciting event of your life IN HIS SLEEP. I could’ve done with anyone besides Liam Neeson in the lead role (sorry) but wow this was very cool.…

It was ok. I liked elements of it. The make-up was well-done; the score by Danny Elfman was entertaining. You can see elements that went into Spider-Man from this. Neeson & McDormand do a good job. I think it's just one of those films that don't quite make it out of its time.
Honestly a great movie I would reccomend. While some of the 80s cheesy camera effects call for some laughs, a lot of the practical effects are honestly pretty good. Reminds me of spawn and the drama of the first deadpool in certain notes. Worth checking out

This is what it would be like if Liam Neeson were Batman but broke as hell and lost everything. Joke aside I thought this was ok. Kinda disappointed with having Liam Neeson and Sam Raimi
I absolutely love this movie! It shows how Sam Raimi would eventually reinvent the superhero movie and most movies would just copy this template.

Interesting concept for a movie. I was entertained for sure. It was pretty good character development.
