Atom User Reviews for Buttons, A Christmas Tale
I thought it was a great cast and liked the story line. It may have been predictable but it is a feel good movie and I think the world could use more of that right now. I love Tim Janis' music and appreciate all he does. I also believe in angels.
The famous actors were about the only interesting thing. I was quite disappointed. Plus, sitting through ads for "The Prom" put a bad taste in my mouth before the feature even started. Then, the Gene Kelly tribute was just his wife talking about him. It was interesting, but some actual clips from his movies would have been nice.
Great music, performances, story and talent. No question. Bring it back every year. Kudos to Tim Janis for his first film.
A really great family movie. Very inspiring to everyone, especially young kids. I will get the CD when it comes out - and watch over and over.
We enjoyed the movie... thought it would have more musical numbers in it. There were times where the voice and lip movement were not synced.. the tribute to Gene Kelly was great, but wish there were clips of him dancing!
Although they're ate a few technical problems already started here, the acting was excellent and it was well done. Loved all of the cast, especially Lansbury, Van Dyke, and McGrath. Would love to purchase on Blu-ray.
The film was produced well but the writing was a bit cheesy and the music was pretty derivative. I even recognized bits of stolen musical phrases from some Broadway musicals. However, the children who attended seemed to really enjoy it. My biggest disappointment was the ad-on piece regarding Gne Kelly., His wife told some wonderful stories about specific dance numbers and encouraged us to look out for certain things, but the movie tribute did not show any of the dance numbers. It looked they intended to includ them but, for some odd reason, did not obtain the rights to do so. Very confusing
Loved this..so very heart-warming and beautiful story and the cast was out of this world
Tim Janis doesn’t have an original bone in his body. Phaps if yoeen THE NEVERENDING STORY, OLIVER, THE BELLS IF ST.
We walked out! It was depressing!
I loved the singing. Wonderful seeing Angela Lansbury. Always perfect! Also really enjoyed the Gene Kelly film afterwards. Always stay through the credits!
A little slow at first, but the story got better and it had a sweet happy ending!
The only problem was the Gil was too dark. Great storyline. Just couldn’t see. I will not make the mistake of ordering my food with the tickets.
Fantastic film - amazing music. Thank you Tim!
Great film with a wonderful, timeless, uplifting message!! Congratulations to Tim, Elizabeth, and the great cast and crew! Acorn Hall looked Amazing, Thank You!! Please make this an annual showing ; We look forward to your next endeavor!!
I expected a great story with the cast it has, but the story was slow without the magic and excitement I expected. Too bad. It could have been so much more appealing.
Thanks Tim Janis for a feel good movie that we need more of. Was worth the wait for it to come out.
I was ready for a sappy holiday movie but the found myself a bit bored. Characters weren't developed enough. The cast of famous characters was fun though.
I expected more from this movie, considering the great cast. The story and concept were okay but not great. It was billed as a musical. Very few songs. Enjoyed the bio on Gene Kelly more than the movie. Will rewatch Singing in the Rain and American in Paris now that I know more of the behind-the-scenes stuff.
Seems like hallmark channel would be a better fit. Not big screen.
We took the family to see Tim's "Button's" I glad we went it was very family friendly something hard to find these days. The story was very sweet and touching to our hearts. Enjoyed Buttons a lot!!
This was a great story and my friend and I Really enjoyed it! We also really enjoyed the unexpected Gene Kelly tribute at the end after the movie was over!
Where do I begin? This film was like a sophomoric creative writing piece that the professor forgot to grade. I felt cheated. After watching the preview and learning Bob Redford was involved I was expecting Milagros Bean Field or something as special. Buttons was unfortunate from beginning to end. Even the name was silly. If this film does make it to theatres for a larger viewing audience, they should go back to the drawing board first and decide how to fix it.
Thanks Tim Janis for a wonderful and thought provoking movie! You nailed it!!
Feel good movie. Great cast. Christmas spirit.
Wonderful holiday mivie
For all of you out there who believe in guardian angels - this is a must see movie. Truly uplifting, inspiring and full of feel good moments. Cast was wonderful and to know the proceeds go to the Golden Hat Foundation truly says a lot about Tim Janis, the producer and the group of actors who step up to help in such a worthy cause. Can't wait to buy the DVD and play it at home. Patricia N.
Katie McGrath’s performance was amazing!
I’m all for supporting Maine filmmakers, but this was a disappointment. The first half of the movie was a musical, second half not so much. The sound was funky at the beginning. Background music oddly loud and the words out of sync with the mouths.... the best part of the whole thing was Angela Lansbury. I could listen to her speak all day.
What a beautiful story !!!
Not sure just what it was. Probably suited for Hallmark channel. Seems like an incomplete movie? Why would it only be shown once? Would not recommend this movie to anyone. Interesting concept, but not coherent.
The cast and set direction is generally excellent. The story disappointingly cliched. The score generally derivative and dubbing awful. Frankly, we hoped for much more...
the sound track did not match the mouth movements of the actors - very bad sound mixing - made it hard to watch good actors made to look like bad ones
The cast made the movie. A pleasant feel good movie
loved it would see it again
Sweet story. Made me cry. Could have flushed out characters more, developed stoey more...made into a series.
Didn't really flow good for me. It was kind of a downer. The set and scenery were good but making it a musical seemed strange.
My whole family and my friends who attended all loved this movie. It was touching and beautiful, and it got us all into the Christmas spirit. The message of hope and believing is a timeless one that resonates so well at this time of year!
Really enjoyed watching it. Just the right balance of music.
