shaking my head whenever they mention hitler to let everyone know i am NOT for that guy
aidanjakobDec 1, 2024Is it historically accurate? No. But is it a well-crafted and entertaining film? Also no. Then surely it must be a preachy faith-based movie openly promoting Christian nationalism? Strangely enough, no. At least not as badly as the marketing from Angel Studios made it…
Joel MaywardNov 25, 2024you better double check which money is involved when you do the job overseas - Diehl & Bleibtreu prostituting themselves for right wing evangelicals might send them right away into hell. ouch.

Not great, but surprisingly took a shot at Christians who are obsessed with Trump (I think?)
grantboboNov 20, 2024crazy to see how similar 1930 Germany and modern day United States are.
asherNov 21, 2024Keep the movies about Hitler coming. And maybe some people will be able to see parallels between him and the other guy. The filmmaking skills are semi-decent, but the message of standing up against Fascism rings true. Loved the call to action at the end. Things I…

Whoever cut the trailer for Bonhoeffer and chose Disturbed's Sound of Silence deserves a freakin' Oscar, I wanted to watch that movie! What I got was this boring, snooze fest. An average at best biopic about a man who's life was anything but. Disappointed to say the least,…
Joel R.Nov 21, 2024Choppy; disjointed; frustrating; inauthentic; incomplete; overacted; overdone; overlong; slow; unconvincing.
joshrowleyNov 20, 2024It's just.... not good. The tagline and poster give a sense of adventure and intrigue. Pastor. Spy. Assassin. Lots of pastor, very little spy, no assassin.

The story of a modern day martyr is so well told. It was told in the spirit of Bonhoeffer not shying away from any history, social commentary and his faith. It was relevant then and it is relevant now.
the whole movie is scrambled and nothing made sense. It’s like a puzzle expect none of the pieces go together.

My first exposure to Bonhoeffer, and my understanding is that the film takes quite a few liberties with his history. Its a movie, not a documentary, so I understand artistic liberties for dramatic effect. But factoring that in, still not a top tier film. Im glad I saw it though.

Beautiful Movie. Seen many films set during WW2, but I have never seen one from the perspective of someone in the church. First time learning about Bonhoeffer’s story. The way the story is structured, acted, and shot is all done well. You can tell that those who worked on the film are seasoned at their craft. Would recommend👍
I loved Bonhoeffer, absolute perfection and argueably one of Angel studio's best christian films yet

As a thriller, this is not really thrilling enough. And as a biopic, it’s not necessarily representative of the spirit of the man. But it’s solid enough film-making in a traditional no-frills mode that will always find an audience – even if it’s not particularly trendy.
The filmmaker also makes effective use of some timeworn narrative conventions to build and sustain suspense.
I highly recommend you pay a quick visit to the Wikipedia page dedicated to German theologian and resistance martyr Dietrch Bonhoeffer before taking on writer-director Todd Komarnicki’s film “Bonhoeffer.” Otherwise, you might be as lost as I was thanks to the botched chronology acted-out by a little-known cast in a screen biography that does not live up to its over-reaching subtitle — “Pastor. Spy. Assassin.”
