This movie is NOT a modern day "9 to 5" kind of film, as the teaser trailer implies. (SPOILER ALERT) The 3 leading ladies do not team up against Roger Ailes. The elevator scene in the teaser trailer is the ONE AND ONLY TIME that all 3 leading ladies are together in the story. Their stories are pretty much separate from each other. The elevator is the only moment with all three and it plays exactly like the trailer, minus the actor and title text. It is a good thing the rest of the movie is funny and entertaining. Otherwise, I would have left the theater very angry!

However freely fictionalized, I like my docudramas with as much moral complication and human shading as filmmakers can provide. Years from now, it’d be wonderful to look back at something more than good actors, with or without wizardly prosthetics, taking our mind off what’s not quite right with the stories at hand.

An explosive piece of entertainment that also means to make a difference. Listen up.

It’s all weighty, serious material with huge stakes — emotionally, culturally and financially. But Roach, working from a script by Charles Randolph, finds a tricky balance of portraying these events with a sprightly tone while crafting a steadily building tension. Bombshell is both light on its feet and a punch in the gut.
