Such a great flick, and so happy our theater brought it to us. I rated a 4-star because of 2 things: 1) poor advertisement. (I almost missed put, because I didn't know it was playing. And i think they cancelled evening showings which would have been better.) and then 2.) we almost didn't get into ourmovie on time, because the movie before us let out late - maybe we were an after-thought? either way loved this, great event, just needed some finessing on the presentation. i'd love to see more events like this!

Not since Ghostbusters have the spirits been so uplifting. [30 Mar 1988]

Elaborate special effects ruin the whimsy of this haunted house movie. The filmmakers parcel out the horrific gags so tirelessly they lose sight of the tale they're telling. This is one ghost story that needed an exorcism. [30 March 1988, p.C8]

For sheer off-the-wall audacity, Tim Burton's demented Beetlejuice certainly demands respect, even if it's more enjoyable in concept that in execution. [4 Apr 1988, p.72]
