  • Tables and chairs vanish after Alicia enters Grissom's meeting.
  • (at around 1h 24 mins) The gun the Joker uses to shoot Bruce is a S&W model 1 (22. caliber short) pistol. The gun makes way too loud a bang to be a 22. short.
  • (at around 19 mins) At Bruce Wayne's party the craps game stick man is shown throwing dice to Gordon with his hand. In real craps games the stick man moves the dice with his stick only.
  • (at around 1h 12 mins) When the Batmobile first drives itself automatically, a hand is visible on the steering wheel through the tinted windscreen. This hand would have been invisible during the theatrical release, but the film's picture was brightened for home video after complaints of the film looking too dark.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When stealing the Joker's balloons, Batman hits a number of switches to close the claw, as he does so, three LEDs go off, one of them (the red one) clearly marked "volume".
  • (at around 2h) The Bat Signal at the end of the film produces a nice, clean flat image against the sky. A lighted signal such as this, however, would need a backdrop to be cast against to be seen (clouds, for example.)
  • (at around 1h 21 mins) When Bruce is examining the plate in Vicki's apartment, an indentation is visible before the Joker shoots it.
  • (at around 6 mins) At the beginning of the movie, on the rooftop, Batman pulls out a batarang to catch the fleeing crook. The batarang is matte black, ridged, and hinged in the middle. Once it's around the crook's ankle, though, it's shiny black, smooth and all one piece.
  • (at around 32 mins) When leaving the dining room, Vicki Vale reaches for her wineglass twice.
  • A Smith & Wesson turns into a Colt during the fight on the catwalks.
  • (at around 49 mins) Bruce Wayne is shot in the arm during the sequence with the Joker and the mimes, but a short while later there is no longer a hole in the sleeve of his coat.
  • (at around 1h 2 mins) When destroying the paintings in the museum, one of Joker's henchmen puts several hand prints on a painting. Later, we see Joker imitating the statue, and in the background we can see the painting that had supposedly been fingerpainted is not.
  • (at around 1h 12 mins) Batman's communicator after telling the Batmobile to stop. He raises a small remote that controls the car to his mouth, gives the command to stop the car and lowers it. In the next shot, his arm is raised to his mouth again.
  • (at around 13 mins) The issue of Time Magazine with Vicki's photos misspells her name as "Vicky" Vale on the front cover.
  • (at around 6 mins) In the opening fight scene, Batman kicks the mugger Eddie through a door. While Eddie is flying through the air, the wire attached to his back is visible.
  • (at around 49 mins) When the Joker is at City Hall with his mime gang, the mime gang opens fire on everyone around. In one shot, two police officers are at the top of the stairs of City Hall, but in the aerial shot, the police officers are gone.
  • (at around 1h 35 mins) The balloon behind the Joker's car (the clown balloon) is close to the ground on close-up shots, and floating high from the ground on other shots.
  • (at around 1h 45 mins) Vicki Vale and the Joker are ascending the stairs of the Cathedral and the shoe slips off of her left foot but when it lands it is the right foot shoe.
  • (at around 1h 17 mins) On the newspaper that explains the combinations of dangerous products, Odor Eaters is spelled "Odoureaters" (UK spelling in the USA). In the same piece, the first combination is "Deodorant's with Baby Powder" (misplaced apostrophe).
  • (at around 1h 22 mins) When the Joker pursues Vicki in her apartment, at one point she grabs a popcorn dish from a shelf. The dish in her hands appears and disappears between shots.
  • (at around 1h 7 mins) When Batman saves Vicki from the museum you can see a crew member's hand holding Vicki when Batman raises them up in the air.
  • The Joker knocks over a statue in the museum that soon rights itself.
  • (at around 26 mins) After Jack takes the axe and smashes it into the acid vat, we see the acid on his jacket (very visible when we see him running up the stairs to escape the police shooting at him). But when Jack is on the catwalk, with his back to the camera, his coat is perfectly dry.
  • (at around 1h 17 mins) The list of fatal "combined" ingredients in the newspaper does not match the one read by the anchorman later.
  • (at around 2h) When the Bat-Signal is shone into the sky, the "sky" moves, revealing the sky to be a backdrop.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) The S&W M29 44. magnum with the long barrel that the joker pulls out of his pants would not be powerful enough to take down the bat jet. The size of the barrel would change nothing unless it was a single shot but it isn't.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) On the ledge atop the Cathedral, Joker dances around, causing the "stone" parapet to wobble.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) During the parade scene when Joker releases the gas, Vicki escapes harm by entering the car. When driving away you can see that the rear passenger side window is open.
  • (at around 24 mins) Eckhart's beard when he busts Jack raiding the office. He enters the factory with a face full of stubble, but moments later he is clean-shaven.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When Batman piloting the Batwing takes off with the parade balloons. At first there are only four balloons. In a wide shot, five balloons are being carried, including the infant balloon which was seen during the Smylex gas scare. But when Batman sets the balloons free, four balloons are released, not including the infant balloon.
  • (at around 1h 30 mins) The Axis Chemical Plant iron gate opens a little bit before the Batmobile smashes it open.
  • (at around 1h 11 mins) During the fight in the alley after the chase, a goon with two swords appears, and Batman knocks him out. The actor in the Batsuit is clearly not Michael Keaton - the jaw is slightly offset. After this, it is Keaton again.
  • (at around 1h 35 mins) When the Joker is throwing his parade, the float that the Joker stands on passes the same building (marked delicatessen) twice.
  • (at around 1h 30 mins) When a thief grabs Martha Wayne's necklace, the pearls all fall separately. But pearl necklaces of any noticeable value invariably have a knot between each pearl to hold them in place and keep from rubbing on and damaging each other. Only the cheapest dime-store version would fall apart that way.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When Batman captures the balloons with the Batwing and sets them free, they are clustered together. In the very next frame, they have spread out.
  • (at around 44 mins) The shape of wiped-off makeup on the Joker's face changes.
  • (at around 1h 35 mins) During the Joker's Parade, one of the dollar bills that his goons were throwing out to the crowd gets caught on his throne. However, when he tells his goons to put on their masks, it has vanished. It reappears when the Joker pulls out the remote control.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) The port gun door on the Batplane opens twice. Also, the missiles he arms are shown in and out of their locked positions before he fires them.
  • The Joker publicly announces that he will be throwing a big parade in the streets of Gotham. The police have been after him throughout the whole movie, yet they're nowhere to be seen during the parade, the easiest time to capture him. (An explanation was written but not included in the film: see trivia.)
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When the Joker releases the gas from the clown balloon, its neck expands. When the Batwing releases it by the Moon, you can see it is in its normal clown shape.
  • (at around 35 mins) As the Joker goes up the steps out of the clinic, he goes through a lighted area and his face is flesh toned and not made up.
  • (at around 24 mins) After one of the henchmen cuts open the safe in Axis Chemicals, he pulls open the safe without turning the handle. Also there are no locking shafts on the side of the door to lock the door in place.
  • (at around 59 mins) The name of the museum is spelled differently on the outside and inside.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When the Joker releases the gas during the parade scene, Alexander Knox takes a white dust mask out of the car to prevent him from inhaling the gas. A dust mask only protects you from dust particles and not from gas.
  • (at around 1h 30 mins) When Batman goes to blow up Axis Chemicals, he uses pop-up machine guns to cut down a door. We see the guns bouncing up and down with the recoil and with the swaying and bumping of the car, but the bullets still cut a straight clean line without any stray bullets.
  • (at around 57 mins) The film is set in Gotham City, USA, but the bottle the Joker holds up in his "Smilex" commercial is for a "Moisturising" creme (instead of "moisturizing"), a tip-off that the bottle was created in England, where the film was shot.
  • During the Prince "Partyman" music video included on the special edition Batman DVD, there is a single frame displaying the editing time-code on the screen.
  • (at around 6 mins) During the initial fight scene, when Batman kicks Eddie The Thug, there is for an instant, a flash going off as if a picture is being taken when Eddie hits the door.
  • (at around 1h 45 mins) The Cathedral appears to be around 60-70 stories, after Vicki and Joker climb that many stairs, they show no signs of exhaustion nor are they sweaty, the same with Batman. Climbing that many stairs would take more than 10 minutes.
  • (at around 4 mins) When the family is mugged in the beginning, the Batman watching from the rooftop is clearly animated.
  • (at around 1h 1 min) The gas mask that Vicki wears in the museum is just the mask part. It didn't have any filters on it and wouldn't have protected her from anything.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) When the Joker is hanging from the ladder on the helicopter towards the end, some of the white makeup from his face can be seen on his jacket.
  • (at around 1h 13 mins) When Batman drives into the Batcave, Vicki looks behind her to see the cave's door closing. However, the configuration of the windows on the cockpit of the Batmobile would make it impossible for her to actually see that.
  • (at around 1h 1 min) In the museum, the waiter and the first three guests pass out before they actually inhale any of the Joker's toxic purple gas.
  • (at around 1h 1 min) Even with proper ventilation, it would take at least a few minutes to completely clear a large building filled with gas, but the Joker and his men immediately enter the museum without wearing any gas masks and most of the gas is gone.
  • (at around 1h 50 mins) On the rooftop of the Gotham City Cathedral, one of the Joker's henchmen knocks Batman down the stairwell. There is an overhead shot, and even though a bell's yoke is there, no bell is present, supposedly because the Joker made the bell fall all the way down to the bottom a few minutes earlier. A few seconds later, the bell is there, and the henchman and Batman ram each other into it.
  • After fighting the Joker's thugs on the street and summoning the Batmobile to escape with Vicki, Batman holds a small remote that controls the car. He raises it to his mouth, gives the command to stop the car and lowers it. In the next shot, his arm is raised to his mouth again.
  • (at around 1h 3 mins) The Joker stops Bob from damaging a painting with a large Bowie knife. When he does, Bob is not using the cutting edge of the knife.
  • (at around 28 mins) In the first meeting of Jack and Batman in Axis chemicals, Batman picks up Jack by the cuffs of his jacket using his forearms against his chest but Batman's gloves have 3 spikes on them and they would have stabbed or hindered his ability to lift him this way.
  • (at around 26 mins) During the Axis raid, when the thug gets caught up in Batman's rope, he yells to be let down repeatedly, but his mouth doesn't move.
  • (at around 53 mins) When the Joker cuts up the pictures and Bob starts to laugh, the laughter starts before Bob's mouth opens.
  • (at around 1h 50 mins) When Batman fights with the Joker's men atop the Cathedral at the end, the fights are very loud and involve all sorts of yelling, punching, kicking, and object breakage. The Joker and Vicki are seen dancing a mere few feet away, yet both are entirely oblivious to Batman's presence until after the fighting is over. Joker is forcing Vicki to dance, however, and his obliviousness is quite obviously purposeful.
  • (at around 1h 50 mins) When Batman arrives atop the Cathedral at the end, he is attacked by several of the Joker's men. These men seemingly appear from nowhere; the Joker indicated on his walkies that he and Vicki were going to be alone and then they climb up alone. However, ten minutes have likely already passed by and the henchmen must have entered the rooftop via the waiting helicopter. A spotlight also appears to encircle Joker and Vicki as they dance, another indication the helicopter is at close range.
  • (at around 1h 30 mins) When the Batmobile's machine guns shoot an opening into the Axis Chemical company, the panel that falls down has a perfectly smooth flat border, not one with bullet hole edges.
  • (at around 1h 9 mins) During the chase after leaving the museum, Batman asks Vicki her weight. He had already carried her across the zipline in the museum, so he should already know her approximate weight.
  • (at around 1h 17 mins) When the newspapers are delivered with Batman's warnings about product combinations, deodorants is spelled "deodorant's."
  • (at around 1h) Vicki arrives at the museum wearing make-up, despite the city-wide boycott on beauty and hygiene products.
  • (at around 1h 17 mins) One newspaper headline reads "Batman Cracks Joker's Poison Code!" The headline to the left reads "Universal Service Urged by Truman in Princeton Talk."
  • (at around 1h 24 mins) The Joker asks Bruce Wayne "Have you ever danced with the Devil in the pale moonlight?" He then says that he asks this of all his victims. However, he never says it in the film until this scene, and the only other time he is shown saying it is to Bruce as a child.
  • A woman in the background of the opening when a character is trying to get a taxi, is looking straight at the camera, at least twice smiling at it, apparently forgetting as an extra you're supposed to not do that.
  • The movie is set in the United States but really was filmed in the United Kingdom. In particular shows the Monarch Theatre. The word "Theatre" is by far the preferred spelling in British English, but the most correct word "Theater" is spelling in American English. This is not a goof because the spelling "Theatre" is commonly used in American English as well. In fact, the spelling ending in "re" is used in the name of nearly every American movie theater chain (Century Theatres, Brendan Theatres, etc.)
  • (at around 1h 29 mins) Bruce/Batman is in the Batcave watching archived footage of the Joker's p.s.a. He pauses the tape and the paused image of Joker has his eyes closed. Soon after, we see the paused tape behind Bruce's shoulder and it is paused on a separate frame with Joker's eyes now opened.
  • (at around 51 mins) Bruce Wayne either pronounces Jack Napier's name very oddly, or mispronounces it altogether. It sounds as if he says: "Jack Ne-der" or "Jack Ne-per".
  • (at around 3 mins) At the beginning of the movie an advertisement can be seen for Sanchez Mexican Food on the top of a cab. The ad does not give an address nor phone number for the restaurant so Gotham City residents would have no idea where to find it.
  • Batman says that hairspray, lipstick, and perfume all worn by the same person will kill them because The Joker has poisoned them, yet Vicki Vale is likely to be wearing all three of those things throughout the entire movie and yet she is completely immune to The Joker's poison. The Joker only recently poisoned new products. Make-up products (depending on how often you use them) can last for months. She (and other women in Gotham) are fine, as long as they only use the stock that they had already bought, before the Joker poisoned the new products.
  • (at around 6 mins) In the opening rooftop scene, the second thug runs away and is snared by the batarang and cable around his ankle. Seconds later, when Batman dangles him over the edge of the building, nothing is wrapped around the thug's ankle.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When the Joker shoots Bob, the two goons beside him react. There are extras on the float and in a crowd behind trying to pick up the Joker's money. None of them react to the gun shot. But they panic when the goons fire into the air to get them out of the way.
  • (at around 53 mins) When the Joker is looking at the photos taken by Bob, he is given four photos. Bob throws the envelope behind him onto the floor. The Joker puts the photo of Knox on the table to see the photo of Vicki. After he says "Stop the press! Who is that?", he is only holding the one photo. Another photo of Vicki is covering the photo of Knox on the table. Then when Bob talks about Vicki, the Joker is back to holding all four photos. None of the photos given to him are on the table at this point. The Joker puts all photos on the table to cut out the one of Vicki. When Bob walks away to get the phone book, the room is seen from a bird's eye view. None of the photos given to the Joker are on the table, and the envelope thrown onto the floor by Bob does not appear.
  • The Batmobile is obviously powered by a gas turbine engine, but when it runs, the engine noise is of a piston engine. Additionally, an axial flow gas turbine engine would need a linear flow through the car, but the one in the Batmobile would be interrupted by the passenger compartment.
  • In the chemical plant when they cut open the safe with a blowtorch, when the safe door is opened there is no bolt on the side of the door locking it shut. Therefore the safe is an obvious prop and could have been opened by just pulling on it.
  • When the Joker is viewing the photos that Bob took at City Hall, the picture of Vale he sees is taken from her left side. However, from where Bob was taking the pictures at the time, it should have been from her right side.
  • During Bruce and Vicki's dinner date, Bruce asks Vicki if she "had a hard time finding the house?" Vicki had already been to the house previously for the benefit to save the Festival.

Spoilers

  • (at around 1h 55 mins) Obvious animated "stand-in" for the Joker when he falls to his death.
  • (at around 37 mins) When we first see the Joker as he confronts and kills Grissom, he comes out of the light and a large purple splotch appears on his neck. On the Special Edition DVD of the film, the make-up adviser explains that this was done because some of the white make-up used for the Joker's face got on the coat collar, and rather than taking it off with alcohol, they covered it up with purple shoe polish.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) When the Joker grabs hold of the ladder attached to his helicopter when he is trying to escape off the top of the cathedral, it is apparent that he is being held up by a wire as he momentarily takes both hands off the ladder. You can see the wire attached to the front of his belt.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) When Batman punches the Joker and he falls over the Cathedral ledge, the mat on which the stuntman fell on is visible on the left of the screen for a split second.
  • (at around 38 mins) After the Joker has killed Grissom, we see the dead man's hand move.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) Blood on the Joker's chin vanishes in the final scene.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) When Joker points the gun at Bob to shoot him, Bob jumps before the gun is fired.
  • (at around 1h 30 mins) In the flashback, the young Jack Napier has blue eyes, but the adult one has brown eyes.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) As the camera spins around the "dead" Joker lying on the pavement, we can see his eyes blink twice, once at a distance and again as the camera gets a bit closer.
  • (at around 1h 35 mins) After Batman blows up Axis Chemicals he is standing in front of the car as it stops. When the Joker arrives in the helicopter he shines a light at Batman. Then they cut to a shot of the copter leaving with the light off, but when they cut back to Batman it's on again.
  • (at around 1h 40 mins) The Joker's revolver should not have been strong enough to bring down the Batwing (it's a holdover from an earlier version of the script, in which the Joker had a tank hiding in one of the parade floats which shot the Batwing down. They weren't able to film it this way for budget reasons though.)
  • (at around 1h 25 mins) When Vicki examines the platter Bruce used to stop the Joker's bullet, the dimple is on the wrong side. If the platter had been under Bruce's clothes facing that way, its large rim would have created an obvious bulge.
  • (at around 1h 45 mins) When Joker and Vicki are at the stairs to the cathedral it appears to be over 600 feet high, which would mean they would have to climb about 900 steps. There is no possible way they could have climbed all those stairs in the short amount of time issued by the Joker to his helicopter pilot (ten minutes).
  • Throughout the film, Vicki Vale wears high-heeled shoes. When she visits Bruce Wayne in the Batcave, she's conveniently wearing flat-soled shoes because of the grating Batman's control center is placed upon.
  • (at around 1h 55 mins) At the very end, Batman's wire saves himself and Vicki by catching them after they fall. However, the wire is not a bungee cord and has no give, which means that, at the distance and speed that they fell, the shock would've likely killed them, or at least severely injured them.
  • (at around 1h 30 mins) When Vicki Vale is talking to Bruce Wayne in the Batcave, she has the remnants of tears coming down her right cheek. She then turns around and her cheek is completely dry.
