Atom User Reviews for BANDSTAND: The Broadway Musical on Screen
Since I missed this on Broadway, I was glad to have the chance to see this. My only complaint is that it was often filmed too close or cut to miss the big picture of the award winning choreography. I wanted more wide shots. Felt like I missed an important facet of the show.
Bring it back again very soon!
I got to see the show last year on Broadway, and loved it then, but somehow, it translates even better to the big screen (apart from the dancing, which you really need to see live to fully appreciate. Unbelievably gifted cast and musicians (many of whom fill both rolls). Especially big shoutouts to Beth Leavel and Joe Carroll who bring so much to their supporting roles.
It was awesome! Have already told 14 people to see it on Thursday my only regret is that it won awards for best choreography but the camera did not pan out for a wide you enough. But it was still fine seeing how tremendous the lead character is and how I didn't mind seeing him up close :-) the music ,the costumes, the acting, the talent was all tremendous!
Excellent show with wonderful performance by cast. Choreography was terrific.
I was very excited to have an opportunity to see this show. It is a fine show with a strong cast and excellent production values. Tonight's ATOM presentation of it, however, was a disaster. After a ten minute delay, the filmed version began with tinny and non-stereo sound completely lacking in depth. I complained to the theater management, but nothing changed. The sound in NEWSIES and FOLLIES was so strong I took out my hearing aids and still heard perfectly. BANDSTAND was stripped all excitement and effect. In a word it was flat. I don't know who to blame, ATOM or AMC Rosedale, but you owe a BIG apology to the audience members and to the producers and company of BANDSTAND. Loved the production; Hated the technical presentation.
I saw the broadway show which was phenomenal! I felt like the movie recording didn’t capture all of the choreography as well as they could have. If you didn’t see the broadway show no big deal, & if you did at least you have the memory, still worth seeing it again since it’s no longer on stage!
I loved it! I would definitely see this again. Cast was great! Music was great. I laughed and cried.
Excellent perfomances. Good show. Glad it has been saved on film for those of us who could not get to New York can see it.
Captured the essence of a live show. So happy you could hear the audience at the live show as it made you feel a part of the show. I would love to see Bandstand live, it delivers an inspiring message to take time and understand what people are going through and find ways to help them.
You can easily see why it earned the Best Musical Tony Award
I missed it on Broadway, and am so glad it was filmed. Incredible talent. Compelling book. Exciting choreography. Loved the music, too!
Missed this in Broadway so I was very happy to finally catch it. The voices and acting and story all surprised. I laughed I cried and remembered what our veterans did for our country. Bravo
SO SO good. You could tell the actors, especially Corey Cott and Laura Osnes, poured all of their emotions into this performance, and I felt like I was there right with them, from moments of despair to elation and everything in between. Definitely cried a few times, and the singing was #onpoint (especially Corey and Laura, but everyone was really good). Loved every minute of it!
Loved being "up close and personal" with the cast. Great talent, wonderful voices and musicians. The story was so poignant and moving and well presented and the cast is very talented. This is so much better than trying to see a play in a large venue. For older people, this is a great way to see a play.
Show was excellent. Mayfair’s theatre played it too loud. I reported that to them but no changes were made... Must have really been something on Broadway!
Loved the show although it started off a little slow. Every performer was great from the singing, dancing, band, and acting. It had humor, drama, plus a love story.
I loved it! It was especially meaningful since I am a Gold Star family member. I saw it both days it was in theaters. I wish I could have seen it live on Broadway. Great job!
Fantastic.
Loved this show! Fun way to bring the stage to the big screen. Show volume was too quite in spots, otherwise it was amazing!
My husband and I really enjoyed this movie from beginning to end!
Wonderful story and great music! Cast was amazing
I was lucky enough to catch this on Broadway last year... Out of the 20 shows we saw in NYC last season, it was by far the best. Thank you Fathom for capturing these incredible performances so that they show can live on! This is a MUST SEE!
Wonderful show, terrible venue. I saw it twice in North Canton, Ohio--that was a great venue. On the show's return to Northeast Ohio, it was playing in Solon. Solon AMC was a bad choice. The sound system was horrible and there were many glitches in the recording. I am still rating it 5+, the show is awesome. A must-see if you are able!!!
So happy to have a chance to see #bandstandonscreen since we didn't see it before it closed on Broadway. Great book, beautiful music, perfect casting! Support TAPS!! www.taps.org
What a maddening experience. The theater started the show 25 minutes late and started the wrong program. Once they addressed that, the broadcast ended abruptly just after the what I think was the final song. After watching previews for 10 minutes, they started the show again in the middle of the last song again, then the broadcast died again before the end. The folks in the theater said they couldn't do anything about it. So we didn't see the end. Pity, because the musical -- what I saw of it -- was fantastic.
I never got the chance to see this show on Broadway but simply from listening to the cast recording I knew that it was my favorite musical. I watched it both days that it was showing simply because I loved it so much the first day that I saw it. I can agree that I wish there were more wide shots to see the full choreography but nevertheless this was an amazing show that I'd love for fathom events to bring back just like Newsies!
Wonderful cast, book, music and choreography.
A little slow getting going, then picked up steam until the satisfying finale.
Exceptionally talented cast!!! My dad was a WWII veteran...this show made me feel closer to his memory. Thank you!!
We didn’t see it because the movie theatre sold tickets but didn’t have the movie!!!
I loved getting to see it after I missed it on Broadway. It was an amazing production that is not to be missed! I hope that it's brought back soon so many others can see it again.
ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!
It was amazing to have the chance to see the original broadway cast perform this emotional and beautiful story. There is some of that Live Theatre Magical Energy missing but it was still worth it and I would do it again!
Excellent!!!
life changing show.
Showstopping numbers, original songs, loved it. Moving treatment of PTSD - have never seen that so well done. Bring this show to theaters all over!
Fantastic acting, singing, dancing and story. Very entertaining. However, I think anyone with PTSD should avoid seeing this film.
Great cast, and wonderful choreography, music and singing. An inspiring and feel good story.
Stellar cast and an original concept. This is a must see show. Laura Osnes, Corey Cott, and the super talented Donna Nova Band put on a show that is haunting and inspiring.
I. COULD. HAVE. DIED.
Fabulous!!!
Excellent production, wonderful heartfelt performances and still pertinent. represented. Try not to miss it.
What an amazing cast and show! The choreography is amazing, so subtle at times but really adds to the show. Can see why it got the Tony last year. And just having the chance to see this show after listening to the albun for so long, its incredible. You have to see Bandstand! Its incredible and amazing and will give you so many feels.
A little long, but very enjoyable
This is the second time we saw this in theaters. So sad we missed it on broadway. We love all of the music, and all of the emotion! Amazing job!
It was just as good on the big screen as it was on Broadway. Exactly the kind of musical/movie America needs. I felt the audio could have been fuller, and the shots could have been zoomed out a bit more... but still, it was a great movie and musical and we need more Broadway in theatres!
Wonderful tribute to our military personnel beautifully told thru music and dance.
Started slow but phenomenal choreography. Talented cast with amazing voices. Definite show stopping songs. I wanted to applaud even in the movie theatre.
Absolutely loved this. The close ups were a little much when there was great choreography missed. Watching on the big screen took me back to when I saw it live. Fabulous performance from beginning to end!
