My favorite part is when Jack Backdraft is in the building and he goes "Not so fast, fire!" and puts it out with water.
Bill RyanThis 90’s blockbuster is hot fire—in every sense of the phrase. High drama. Histrionic melodrama. Heart-wrenching tragedy. Chummy camaraderie. Smoldering set pieces. Baldwin’s slicked-back hair and smirk. Jennifer Jason Leigh’s peach-tinted suits and coquettish sass. Fiery…
Cinematic UnderdogsJul 28, 2023After years of hearing about Ron Howard's "classic" about a crew of firemen and their lives—and, apparently, a sinister series of fires that caught me completely by surprise—I decided to watch the film for the first time. In and of itself, the film is enjoyable. Ron…

HE EMPTIED THE WHOLE JAR OF JELLY INTO THE PAN
NicoJan 30, 2021Sure, it might be a bit silly at times, but who cares! With such an amazing assemble cast and all the super intense moments involving the pyrotechnics, it couldn't have been more riveting. Scott Glenn and Jennifer Jason Leigh were a bit underused in my opinion, but Donald…
Lou (rhymes with wow!)Nov 8, 2023In every practical sense, I should love this movie. In so many ways it mirrors my beloved Twister, but unlike Twister, Backdraft is painfully melodramatic— to the point where I’m laughing when I’m certain the movie wants me in tears (or close to it). But it’s biggest sin is…

Spectacular, never-ending fire and explosions but a flagrantly silly story (and perplexing double-casting of Kurt Russell as both a main character and that main character's father in a flashback.) But for real, tremendous job with all that fire seriously there are a lot…
KeithJun 28, 2020Sometimes your children grow up to look like you. Sometimes they grow up to look like a Baldwin.
TessaSep 5, 2021There’s some mystery plot that even the movie doesn’t seem particularly interested in but damn those fire stunts are great. Also gotta love the firefighter training montage set to a cheesy soft rock song.

Cinematography: Gorgeous Music: Amazing, obviously (HZ) Acting: Very good Plot: Pretty solid Characters: Alright, with a few underutilized or underdeveloped Overall a great movie that shows appreciation for firefighters who regularly risk their lives for others w/ a nice mystery
This movie is definitely one that is worth checking out as it is a very tense and suspenseful and portrays fire as more dangerous and cruel thing that just devours everything around it. It was done so beautifully and will always be remembered for just that. I’ll give it a 9.5/10

This film broke me. I was sobbing in the first five minutes and continued throughout. The tension, the brotherhood, the sacrifice, the grief, the twist? Breathtaking. “That’s my brother, god damn it” ripped me to shreds. I’ll never recover. So intense, so human, so unforgettable.

Stacked cast and a few all time great shots - needed a few more quotable lines and a slightly tighter plot to be an all-timer but a coo piece of nostalgia from the era of practical effects.
Really great performances from the whole cast, cool set pieces and fun story
