Jigsaw has added a Marvel hero to his list of new victims.

Samuel L. Jackson will reportedly star opposite Chris Rock in Lionsgate’s Saw reboot, playing the father of Rock’s character. Rock is also getting a “Story by” credit for the movie, which also stars Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Marisol Nichols. Bloody Disgusting had the scoop, which Lionsgate later confirmed via press release.

Rock plays a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes that all likely point back to Jigsaw. Minghella plays William Schenk, Rock’s partner, and Rock’s boss, Captain Angie Garza, is played by Nichols.

Saw veteran Darren Lynn Bousman directs the new Saw, which started production this week with a script by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. There’s no word yet if Tobin Bell will reprise his role as the gruesome killer, but, c’mon – it’s Saw! The guy has to be in the movie.

The Saw franchise is horror’s latest to get the reboot treatment, and honestly, it could use one. Since it was created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell in 2004, there have been seven Saw movies – most of them more “miss” than “hit.” The last installment, 2017’s Jigsaw, overcame terrible reviews to rake in over $100 million at the worldwide box office off a $10M budget.

The new Saw opens everywhere October 23, 2020.
