Now let’s get to those matchups. We’ve officially gotten through all our competitors and narrowed the field to our two finalists. Here’s the final round on Friday, May 31st.

Final Round: Thor Vs. Iron Man

(FINAL WINNER: Iron Man)

THOR

Ring name: God of Thunder

Powers & abilities: Semi-immortality, godlike strength, stamina and invulnerability. Can summon lightning and storms.
Tools & weapons: Stormbreaker (cosmic ax forged in the heart of a dying star), Mjölnir (magical hammer made of uru and forged by the same Dwarves)

In a fight, Thor is generally unbeatable provided he can summon Mjölnir or Stormbreaker to help call down the heavens. Mjölnir is particularly useful thanks to its ability to return to his hand when he calls for it. He’s also able to whip it around by its handle to create momentum for a giant wallop or to temporarily fly. In recent movies, he’s leveled up and doesn’t necessarily need either weapon to summon lightning, though without his lightning he’s mostly on the same footing as other enhanced superheroes.

IRON MAN

Ring name: The Armored Avenger

Powers & abilities: When wearing the Iron Man armor: Superhuman strength, durability and endurance; flight; AI armor support and HUD; self-contained life support and environmental protection systems; energy conversion and storage; combat analysis. On his own: master engineer, scientist and hacker; expert tactician; martial arts expertise; expert marksman and pilot
Tools & weapons: Various Iron Man Mark armors that include but are not limited to: Unibeam; repulsors; rocket boot thrusters; multiple lasers; micro-guns; multiples missiles; nanotech smart armor; multiple handguns

Tony Stark is one of the few in our bracket with absolutely no enhanced abilities or superpowers on his own. But his genius intellect and Iron Man Mark armors make that just about negligible. There is not a single fight or situation that Tony doesn’t have a weapon or a counter for, and enemies that have tried to take on Shellhead usually find themselves on the losing end after being hit with a missile, blasted in the face with a repulsor, or having their systems shut down. Add the nanotech Mark armor and it’s all over – how do you attack or defend against a suit of armor that can mold and reform for various purposes in real-time? The answer is, you don’t.

Semifinals Matchup #2: Iron Man Vs. Deadpool

(WINNER: Iron Man)

DEADPOOL

Ring name: The Merc with a Mouth

Powers & abilities: Extreme regenerative healing powers and advanced longevity; superhuman speed, strength, agility, durability, stamina, and reflexes; master acrobat and martial artist; master assassin and marksman; master swordsman; expert tracker
Tools & weapons: Deadpool costume; dual katana swords; multiple knives, daggers, and shurikens; dual IWI Desert Eagle Mark XIX 50.AE guns

Wade Wilson is a cockroach: you can’t ever seem to kill him and he always comes back. He’s a menace with a sword and a gun, able to hit sniper-like shots from near-impossible angles or go full berserker and carve up enemies with his dual katanas. And good luck keeping him quiet in a fight. If he can’t hurt you physically, he’ll drive you nuts with his motormouth and inability to shut up. We’re talking a toddler with an Adderall addiction levels of annoying. His legendary ability to get under an opponent’s skin is a superpower in its own right. Just when you’re ready to do anything, anything, to get him to shut up, that’s when he’ll skewer you with a sword. Good luck with *waves hand* all of that.

Semifinals Matchup #1: Thor Vs. Captain America

(WINNER: Thor)

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Ring name: The Star-Spangled Avenger

Powers & abilities: Enhanced human physiology (enhanced strength, intelligence, speed, durability, agility, stamina, reflexes and senses); regenerative healing factor; master martial artist and acrobat; shield mastery; weapon proficiency; master strategist and tactician;
Tools & weapons: Vibranium shield; Captain America costume; various guns (occasionally)

Steve Rogers’ entire life has been lived in combat, so there is very little the veteran soldier hasn’t seen on the battlefield, whether in a largescale fight or one-on-one. Quite literally engineered to win battles, Cap is a master of hand-to-hand combat and there aren’t many opponents who have walked away from him on the winning side. When not up close and personal, Captain America uses his physics-defying shield to keep opponents on uneven footing – when they’re focused on the whirling disk, that’s when Cap will come in with a flying knee to the chest or a roundhouse kick. Plus, the scrappy Steve Rogers will never give up in a fight. Even when he’s down, he’ll find a hidden reserve of strength to get back up.

RESULTS FOR THE QUARTERFINALS

Quarterfinals Matchup #4: Hulk Vs. Deadpool

(Winner: Deadpool)

HULK

Ring name: Enormous Green Rage Monster

Powers & abilities: Superhuman strength, stamina, speed and durability; ability to leap great distances; regenerative healing factor; master scientist and engineer; expert tactician and hand-to-hand combatant
Tools & weapons: He is the weapon.

You know what you’re getting with the Hulk. He smashes. That’s it. That’s what he does. Sometimes he throws something or rips it apart, but mostly, it’s just smashing. Hulk may not move as quickly as other fighters but his rage fuels him and if he has you in his sights, he won’t stop until he’s pulverized you into dust – just ask Loki.

DEADPOOL

Ring name: The Merc with a Mouth

Powers & abilities: Extreme regenerative healing powers and advanced longevity; superhuman speed, strength, agility, durability, stamina, and reflexes; master acrobat and martial artist; master assassin and marksman; master swordsman; expert tracker
Tools & weapons: Deadpool costume; dual katana swords; multiple knives, daggers, and shurikens; dual IWI Desert Eagle Mark XIX 50.AE guns

Quarterfinals Matchup #3: Iron Man Vs. Batman

(WINNER: Iron Man)

Add the nanotech Mark armor and it’s all over – how do you attack or defend against a suit of armor that can mold and reform for various purposes in real-time? The answer is, you don’t.

BATMAN

Ring name: The Dark Knight

Powers & abilities: Peak human strength, durability, stamina, agility & flexibility; master martial artist, spy and interrogator; expert marksman; master detective; master tactician and strategist; expert pilot, driver, and rider
Tools & weapons: Batsuit; Batarangs; grapple gun with zipline; utility belt; multiple hacking devices & tracer/GPS tech; multiple guns; multiple forms of transport including the Batmobile, Flying Fox, Batwing and Knight Crawler.

The standard argument for Batman winning any fight is that if he has time to prep for the fight, he’ll win. Usually, this is true; Batman’s rather legendary for deus ex machina plot twists that gain him a win. But Bruce Wayne also has the skills to back it up. There is very little he doesn’t know about his opponents before they fight, giving him the advantage in any matchup as he has the ability to think three steps ahead. The assortment of gadgets in his utility belt can get him out of just about any situation in which he’s overmatched physically, particularly if he has time to prep. Fight the Bat at your own risk.

Quarterfinals Matchup #2: Wonder Woman Vs. Captain America

(WINNER: Captain America)

WONDER WOMAN

Ring name: The Amazing Amazon

Powers & abilities: Superhuman speed, strength, agility, stamina, reflexes; accelerated healing; semi-immortality; levitation and potential flight; moderate degree of electricity manipulation; expert archer, horsewoman; mastery of sword, shield, and lasso; master hand-to-hand combatant
Tools & weapons: Lasso of Truth (lasso that forces those bound by it to tell the truth); bullet-deflecting gauntlets; (previously) Godkiller sword; (currently) Sword of Athena; shield

Diana is one of the most formidable fighters in the entire DC pantheon, having trained her entire life with the Amazons to protect mankind. In battle, she has a mastery of multiple martial arts styles, meaning it’s rare her opponents ever gain the upper hand. Wonder Woman can throw a kick as easily as she throws a punch, and her threat is doubled if she gets a sword, shield, or her lasso in her hand. She is a weapon of war and peace and her versatile style means not many who stand against her win.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Ring name: The Star-Spangled Avenger

Powers & abilities: Enhanced human physiology (enhanced strength, intelligence, speed, durability, agility, stamina, reflexes and senses); regenerative healing factor; master martial artist and acrobat; shield mastery; weapon proficiency; master strategist and tactician;

Quarterfinals Matchup #1: Thor Vs. Doctor Strange

(WINNER: Thor)

DOCTOR STRANGE

Ring name: The Sorcerer Supreme

Powers & abilities: *takes a breath* Master sorcerer, magic manipulation, flight, dimensional warping, teleportation, time travel, astral projection, conjuring, duplicating himself, expert martial artist, skilled surgeon
Tools & weapons: Cloak of Levitation (sentient cloak), Eye of Agomatto (houses the Time Stone), sling ring (enables him to portal)

The elegant sorcerer might not seem like a fearsome opponent at first glance, but he’s one of the most powerful beings in the universe thanks to his mastery of all forms of magic. In a fight, he’s not the one to throw a punch or a kick (though he will if he absolutely must, and he is trained in martial arts) – he doesn’t have to. He can quite literally warp reality to suit his needs, so his opponents often find themselves on uneven and constantly changing ground when they square off with the Sorcerer Supreme. You can’t hit what you can’t catch, especially if he can just bamf! away.

RESULTS FOR THE SECOND ROUND

Second Round Matchup #8: Deadpool Vs. Spider-Man

(WINNER: Deadpool)

SPIDER-MAN

Ring name: Wallcrawler

Powers & abilities: Spider physiology: superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, and perfect equilibrium; enhanced vision; precognitive spider-sense; wall-crawling and ability to stick to any surface; regenerative healing powers; blossoming tactician and combatant; master acrobat and gymnast; competent marksman; gifted investigator
Tools & weapons: Stark-tech Spider-suit: utility belt, spider-drone. A.I. program (Karen); Iron Spider armor: enhanced protection and four waldoes (mechanical legs); web-shooters with synthetic webbing cartridges; spider-signal; spider-tracer tracker

In the context of the MCU, Peter Parker is still a baby and hasn’t fully learned how to control and utilize his spider-powers yet, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a dangerous opponent. In fact, it’s his raw powers that make him so formidable, as opponents often go up against the baby-faced Avenger thinking he’ll be an easy win only to find themselves walloped with a kick or webbed up faster than they can blink. Spider-Man is exceptionally hard to hit, being one of the more agile and speedy fighters out there. His motormouth often gets under opponents’ skin, causing them to lose focus and giving him an edge, however accidentally. And despite his youth and inexperience, Spider-Man is a tenacious fighter, one who will refuse to back down or stay down, making him almost impossible to shake off.

Second Round Matchup #7: Hulk Vs. Superman

(WINNER: Hulk)

SUPERMAN

Ring name: Man of Steel

Powers & abilities: Kryptonian physiology: superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, stamina; flight; invulnerability and regenerative healing factor; superhuman breath (arctic breath, hypersonic scream); superhuman vision (x-ray vision, telescopic vision, heat vision); superhuman hearing; superhuman smell; skilled tactician and combatant; indomitable will
Tools & weapons: Supersuit

Superman doesn’t really need to fight hand-to-hand so much as he can destroy opponents before the fight even begins with his near-unlimited spread of superpowers. He can kick an opponent for a mile, blast them with laser vision, toss them halfway to the sun, freeze them to death with a single breath – the list goes on. Plus, while he’s doing all that damage to an opponent, they’re likely not doing any damage to him thanks to his invulnerability and regenerative healing factor. How do you stop someone who is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and can leap a tall building in a single bound? The answer is unless you have kryptonite handy, you don’t.

Second Round Matchup #6: Iron Man Vs. The Flash

(WINNER: Iron Man)

THE FLASH

Ring name: Scarlet Speedster

Powers & abilities: Ability to tap into the Speed Force, giving him the powers of: superhuman speed, reflexes, agility and stamina; accelerated healing factor; ability to phase through objects; time travel; ability to travel to other frequencies/planes; electricity manipulation
Tools & weapons: Flash suit

To think Barry Allen is just really fast is a gross oversimplification of his powers; he moves at the speed of light. If an opponent actually manages to pin the Flash down, he’s almost impossible to touch in a fight, moving so fast he disappears – only to come back and hit you with a momentum-powered wallop hard enough to knock you a mile away. And when you do get close to him, there’s another problem to contend with: he moves so fast he creates air vortexes that are filled with lightning. Basically, fighting the Flash is like fighting a sentient bolt of lightning with a fist at the end. Good luck with that.

Second Round Matchup #5: Star-Lord Vs. Batman

(WINNER: Batman)

STAR-LORD

Ring name: The Legendary Outlaw

Powers & abilities: Celestial-human hybrid physiology; superhuman durability; freerunning & parkour; expert combatant and marksman; expert pilot
Tools & weapons: Quad blasters (dual-barrelled energy weapons); jet boots; universal translator helmet; plasma sphere; gravity mines

Star-Lord is a master of improvisation, usually because he only has no more than 12% of a plan at any given time. Peter Quill’s strength isn’t in his hand-to-hand combat skills, but in his ability to keep his opponent on their toes through his unorthodox style and impulsive decision-making. Maybe he’ll blast you into pieces or maybe he’ll challenge you to a dance-off. You don’t know. Star-Lord will find the weirdest way to win.

Second Round Matchup #4: Captain Marvel Vs. Captain America

(WINNER: Captain America)

CAPTAIN MARVEL

Ring name: Binary

Powers & abilities: Superhuman speed, strength, stamina, reflexes, agility; nigh-invulnerability and regenerative healing factor; longevity; ability to survive in the depths of space; flight at the speed of light; power augmentation; energy manipulation, including photon blasts, exothermic manipulation, energy channeling; expert hand-to-hand combatant; skilled acrobat (parkour); expert marksman; master pilot; skilled engineer
Tools & weapons: She is the weapon.

Carol Danvers is a force of nature unto herself. She’s skilled at hand-to-hand combat, though it’s not her strength. But honestly, who needs that when she can blast them into the atmosphere? As Captain Marvel, she’s a scary opponent to face. As Binary? She’s near-unstoppable, channeling the power of a white hole to enable her to move at the speed of light, immeasurably increase her power, and manipulate enormous quantities of energy, channeling it into everything from devastating photon blasts to electromagnetic shockwaves. You do not want to make yourself one of Captain Marvel’s targets or cross her on a bad day.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Ring name: The Star-Spangled Avenger

Powers & abilities: Enhanced human physiology (enhanced strength, intelligence, speed, durability, agility, stamina, reflexes and senses); regenerative healing factor; master martial artist and acrobat; shield mastery; weapon proficiency; master strategist and tactician;

Second Round Matchup #3: Wonder Woman Vs. War Machine

(WINNER: Wonder Woman)

WAR MACHINE

Ring name: Iron Patriot

Powers & abilities: In suit: flight; superhuman strength and reflexes; A.I. support system; life support system & environmental protection; expert martial artist, marksman, and pilot; excellent tactician
Tools & weapons: War Machine suit: repulsors, mini Stark sonic cannon, rocket launcher, gauntlet machine guns, unibeam, mini gun, stun staff; leg braces

James Rhodes might be just a human, but he’s an impressive human. Even without his War Machine armor, he’s an excellent military strategist and combatant. In his armor, he is a literal walking arsenal that can stun, blast, spray, shoot, laser, boom, and create shockwaves. In addition, his suit has multiple defensive capabilities, including Friday, the A.I. that acts like a second teammate watching his back at all times, and the ability to fly above the battle when he needs to survey his opponent or briefly outmaneuver them.

Second Round Matchup #2: Doctor Strange Vs. Rocket

(WINNER: Doctor Strange)

You can’t hit what you can’t catch, especially if he can just bamf! away.

ROCKET RACCOON

Ring name: Trash Panda

Powers & abilities: enhanced durability, agility, strength (for a raccoon) and senses; expert marksman and tactician; master engineer and demolitions expert; hand-to-hand combat skills
Tools & weapons: Multiple weapons and bombs, including an ion and laser cannon, gas grenades, Hadron enforcer (capable of destroying a small moon), jet packs

In a bare-knuckled brawl, Rocket might have solid fighting skills but still, he’s a raccoon. Against an opponent of at least normal human size, he’s outmatched. But Rocket is a genius at improvising in a chaotic situation. Give him a scrap of metal, a battery, a rock, or a piece of string, and Rocket can turn it into some sort of deadly weapon. Plus, the trash panda comes loaded down with at least 47 different kinds of explosives on him at any given time. Assuming he has nothing that can blow up within reach is always a bad idea.

Second Round Matchup #1: Thor Vs. Black Panther

(WINNER: Thor)

BLACK PANTHER

Ring name: King of Wakanda

Powers & abilities: Enhanced strength, speed, durability, stamina; fast healing; master acrobat and martial artist
Tools & weapons: Vibranium-tipped claws, vibranium-threaded suit that stores kinetic power and releases it in a blast

King T’Challa is as graceful a fighter as he is deadly, using his agility and speed to outmaneuver opponents before they can get their bearings. As a master tactician and strategist, he’s often one step ahead of his opposition, meaning he can land a punch or a roundhouse kick before the other person knows what hit them. If all else fails, his acrobatic agility often gets him out of harm’s way if the fight starts to go south.

RESULTS FOR THE FIRST ROUND BRACKET

Matchup #16: Spider-Man Vs. Scarlet Witch

(WINNER: Spider-Man)

SCARLET WITCH

Ring name: Little Witch

Powers & abilities: Psionic powers: energy manipulation in the form of bolts, blasts, and streams, telekinesis, force field generation, flight/levitation, telepathy, emotional & mental manipulation; competent spy and combatant
Tools & weapons: Her mind is both the tool and the weapon

The “little witch” of the Avengers may seem fragile on the surface, but she’s one of the most powerful members of the team, especially when her angry streak is roused. Like Hulk, you definitely don’t want to see Wanda Maximoff when she’s angry. As a fighter, she relies on her vast psionic powers to defeat an opponent, whether that’s by blasting them with a pure stream of energy, tearing them apart with a wave of force, or simply hurling them away with telekinesis. She also has some serious defensive capabilities – just when an enemy thinks they’ve locked onto her, she generates a force field strong enough to hold back almost anything. Don’t get too close to her, either, or she’ll get inside an opponent’s head and unleash their worst nightmares upon them, temporarily paralyzing them with fear.

Matchup #15: Ant-Man Vs. Deadpool

(WINNER: Deadpool)

ANT-MAN

Ring name: Tic Tac

Powers & abilities: With the Ant-Man suit: size manipulation, superhuman strength and durability; ability to control insects; expert acrobat and martial artist; expert tactician; expert engineer; gifted at misdirection and sleight of hand
Tools & weapons: Ant-Man suit; EMP insect communication device; Pym Particles disks

Scott Lang might be the goofiest Avenger, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still a force to be reckoned with in a fight. Up close, he’s able to hold his own in hand-to-hand combat, but his strength lies in his ability to shrink or grow on a dime. He can turn minuscule and disappear only to come out of nowhere and punch an enemy with the force of a bullet, or grow kaiju-large and stomp an opponent into the ground. It’s like trying to swat away a bee that can move ten times as fast and with a gift for improvising in the middle of a fight. Don’t underestimate Tiny.

Matchup #14: Falcon Vs. Superman

(WINNER: Superman)

FALCON

Ring name: Blackwing

Powers & abilities: With his winged Falcon jetpack: flight, enhanced vision, midair maneuverability similar to a fighter jet; master pilot; expert martial artist and acrobat; expert marksman; expert tactician
Tools & weapons: EXO-7 Falcon jetpack; dual Steyr SPP machine pistols; dual barrel wrist-mounted machine gun; wrist-mounted miniature rocket launcher; magnification goggles; Redwing drone

Falcon, like Iron Man and War Machine, is completely human, getting his powers from the tech he straps to his body. However, that doesn’t make him a fierce combatant. His military background had made him tough as nails and with his iron will, he’ll doggedly pursue an opponent from the air until they’re on the ground. Those wings of his aren’t just for flying, either – he can use them like deadly blades, spinning like a whirling dervish to deal out death or using the tips to skewer an opponent. While he’s better as a ranged fighter, that doesn’t mean he’s not dangerous up close – he is an extremely skilled hand-to-hand combatant and can use his wings to propel him in ways that opponents don’t expect. Human or not, he’s deadly.

Matchup #13: The Vision Vs. Hulk

(WINNER: Hulk)

THE VISION

Ring name: Superbot

Powers & abilities: Superhuman strength and durability; flight; density manipulation and ability to become intangible or phase through objects; energy blasts; ability to manipulate digital information; gifted combatant
Tools & weapons: Mind Stone

The Vision is slippery opponent, able to phase in and out of corporeal form at a moment’s notice, making it difficult to catch him, much less hurt him. He can become intangible so a punch goes right through him and then turn solid again just in time to hit you in the jaw – or get inside your advanced tech suit and rip it apart. And if that doesn’t do enough damage, there’s always the fact he can fire blasts at you from the Mind Stone. Vision may be only a few years old but he has the formidable background of a much more seasoned opponent.

Matchup #12: The Flash Vs. Shazam

(WINNER: The Flash)

SHAZAM

Ring name: Captain Sparklefingers

Powers & abilities: Divine empowerment that gives him superhuman intellect, strength, stamina, speed, the power to manipulate electricity and nigh-invulnerability
Tools & weapons: Shazam suit, magic staff

In the DCEU, Billy Batson is just learning how to use his powers as Shazam (and we’ll assume that whole “wisdom of Solomon” thing is being saved for later). But even just coming into his own, he’s formidable. He can fight you on the ground or in the air thanks to his ability to fly, and he packs a mean punch. Traditional weapons are useless against him, seeing as how he’s bulletproof and nigh-invulnerable, so you’ll have to find another way to beat him. Plus, he has the inventiveness of a kid behind his fighting style, and his scrappiness means he’ll never back down from a fight.

Matchup #11: Aquaman Vs. Iron Man

(WINNER: Iron Man)

AQUAMAN

Ring name: King of the Seven Seas

Powers & abilities: Atlantean-human hybrid physiology (superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, reflexes, stamina, senses); regenerative healing factor; ability to breathe underwater; telepathy with marine creatures; hydrokinesis (the ability to control water); master combatant and swimmer; trident mastery; expert marksman
Tools & weapons: Atlan’s Trident; Aquaman suit and Atlantean armor

For many years, Arthur Curry was something of a punchline in pop culture, but the movie version of Aquaman changed all that. On land, Aquaman can hold his own, able to throw a fist of spin a trident with deadly accuracy. But if he gets you in the water, it’s all over. The sea is his domain and Aquaman can bend water to his will, using it to trap, pummel, or eject whomever he sees fit. In a fight near or on the ocean, the King of the Seven Seas can also call upon the help of marine creatures to come to his aid – hard enough to fight Arthur on his own, but it gets exponentially harder when you have to factor sharks, whales, and dolphins into it.

Matchup #10: Winter Soldier Vs. Batman

(WINNER: Batman)

WINTER SOLDIER

Ring name: White Wolf

Powers & abilities: Artificially enhanced physiology (enhanced strength, durability, speed, agility, stamina, reflexes); regenerative healing factor; longevity; master martial artist & acrobat (parkour); master assassin and marksman; knife mastery; expert pilot
Tools & weapons: Bionic arm (bulletproof, superhuman strength); multiple handguns; multiple semi-automatic guns; Gerber Mark II combat knife

The Winter Soldier was a boogeyman in the black ops intelligence community for decades, the assassin who scared other assassins, for a reason. A master assassin, he was programmed to be a relentless Terminator; brainwashed to be a ruthlessly efficient killer. As Bucky Barnes, he’s regained his humanity, but his deadly skill with gun, fist, and blade is still unparalleled. He can beat you at a sniper’s distance or up close and personal; it’s all the same to him. Plus, there’s something to be said about his nihilistic approach to life; he’s not afraid to die so it gives him an edge in a fight, however bleak.

Matchup #9: Valkyrie Vs. Star-Lord

(WINNER: Star-Lord)

VALKYRIE

Ring name: Queen of Asgard

Powers & abilities: Asgardian physiology (superhuman speed, agility, strength, stamina, durability); regenerative healing factor and longevity; master combatant; sword and spear mastery; expert pilot
Tools & weapons: Dragonfang sword (the sword of the Valkyrie); armor; daggers; Asgardian spear; Warsong’s Gatling guns (when the ship is close enough to be remotely triggered); Pegasus

Valkyrie is one of the formidable Asgardian race of women warriors whose lives have been spent in battle, so the new Queen of Asgard understands everything there is to know about a fight. On the ground, she’s a whirling dervish of blades, whether it’s a sword or the tip of a spear, but she also knows how to throw down hand-to-hand – and well – if it comes to it. Plus, her confidence is unparalleled – swagger may not win a fight alone, but it can give you the mental edge you need to beat your opponent.

Matchup #8: Captain America Vs. Hawkeye

(WINNER: Captain America)

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Ring name: The Star-Spangled Avenger

Powers & abilities: Enhanced human physiology (enhanced strength, intelligence, speed, durability, agility, stamina, reflexes and senses); regenerative healing factor; master martial artist and acrobat; shield mastery; weapon proficiency; master strategist and tactician;

HAWKEYE

Ring name: Ronin

Powers & abilities: Master marksman, assassin and martial artist; expert tactician and pilot; sword mastery
Tools & weapons: Multiple recurve bows; specialized quivers; trick arrows; multiple guns; wristbow; katana

Hawkeye is often underestimated as a fighter thanks to his all-too-human physiology and focus on archery. But the wily Clint Barton has learned ways to survive and win in a fight, strategically using tools and tricks to his advantage. It’s hard to get Hawkeye off his game when he’s already leveled the playing field – or tilted it in his favor – before the fight even begins, thanks to his trick arrows and talent for trickery and subterfuge. Just when you think you have him, he’s lobbing a smoke arrow in your direction or blowing something up behind you to take you out with a lethally-placed shot. Underestimate the Avengers’ master archer at your own risk.

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS…

Matchup #7: Captain Marvel Vs. Black Widow

(WINNER: Captain Marvel)

BLACK WIDOW

Ring name: Red Oktober

Powers & abilities: Master spy and assassin; master of stealth and subterfuge; mastery of martial arts; master marksman; spear and staff mastery; multilingual; master interrogator; mental manipulation; expert hacker and pilot; longevity; peak human speed, strength, agility, durability, reflexes
Tools & weapons: Widow’s Bite gauntlets and Black Widow’s batons (electrical weapons); multiple handguns; flash bombs and smoke grenades; taser disks; garrote

At face value, Black Widow may not seem that formidable. She’s human and, at least in the context of the movies, not even an enhanced one. But Natasha is a chameleon and a survivor, and it’s helped her beat foes who have greatly overpowered her. She is one of the most skilled fighters in the entire world, having mastered over a dozen forms of martial arts, meaning that as soon as her opponent thinks they have her pinned, Black Widow is already gone – and likely hitting them with a Widow’s Bite. She has easily taken down stronger opponents thanks to her ability to see three steps ahead in a fight like a master chess player. Underestimating Black Widow is usually the last thing her enemy ever does.

Matchup #6: War Machine Vs. Cyborg

(WINNER: War Machine)

CYBORG

Ring name: Steel Sentinel

Powers & abilities: Superhuman strength and stamina; self-modification; semi-invulnerability and self-repair; technological manipulation and interfacing; shape-shifting body parts; expert athlete, marksman and engineer
Tools & weapons: Plasma cannon, rocket launcher, Apokoliptan Mother Box

Cyborg isn’t quite a walking arsenal, but his tech enhancements mean he is a living weapon with the ability to create weapons of himself at will. In a fight, he’s not the most experienced hand-to-hand combatant, but who needs to throw a punch when you can morph into a cybernetically enhanced weapon of your choice or interface with the technology around you? It’s best not to underestimate him.

Matchup #5: Wonder Woman Vs. Wasp

(WINNER: Wonder Woman)

WASP

Ring name: Winsome Wasp

Powers & abilities: Size manipulation; superhuman strength and durability (in the Wasp suit); flight; energy blasts; insect manipulation; expert fighter and martial artist; master acrobat; genius-level intellect
Tools & weapons: Wasp suit (including blasters); EMP communication device

Hope van Dyne is someone you don’t want to underestimate in a fight. She can, quite literally, be tiny but lethal, with her pinpoint ability to shift sizes in the blink of an eye making it virtually impossible for her opponents to pin her down before she lands a punch, kick or devastating blast. Even at normal human size, Wasp can hold her own, having trained for years as an agile acrobat and an excellent fighter who has mastered a number of fighting styles.

Matchup #4: Rocket Raccoon Vs. Groot

(WINNER: Rocket Raccoon)

GROOT

Ring name: …still Groot

Powers & abilities: Superhuman strength and durability; enhanced speed; elasticity and flower/branch regeneration; light generation; body manipulation, including projecting tentacles and vines; brute strength in melee fighting
Tools & weapons: With his wooden exoskeleton and ability to generate wooden spikes and whips, he is the weapon.

While on the surface Groot may not seem like that formidable opponent if you can outmaneuver him, Groot’s strength lies in grappling and incapacitating his opponents, wrapping them up with vines and roots before they can move. Due to his ability to manipulate his body, it’s often hard to know what’s coming next – especially because the walking tree is a lot faster and more agile than you’d expect.

Matchup #3: Doctor Strange Vs. Wolverine

(WINNER: Doctor Strange)

You can’t hit what you can’t catch, especially if he can just bamf! away.

WOLVERINE

Ring name: The Berserker

Powers & abilities: Superhuman speed, strength, agility, and senses, regenerative healing factor, potential immortality, adamantium-coated skeleton
Tools & weapons: Adamantium claws, a lifetime’s worth of bad attitude

Wolverine, a.k.a. Logan, is a formidable opponent in a fight thanks to his almost-instantaneous healing factor. There is virtually no punch, kick, or weapon you can throw at him that he won’t shrug off as he heals right in front of you. As a fighter, he’s straightforward and brutal, using his adamantium claws to slash his way through opponents like butter. When he goes into berserker mode, it’s even scarier as he seems to feel virtually no pain or discomfort and will not stop until his bloodlust has calmed.

Matchup #2: Black Panther Vs. Gamora

(WINNER: Black Panther)

GAMORA

Ring name: The Deadliest Woman in the Universe

Powers & abilities: Superhuman Zehoberi physiology enhanced with cybernetics; enhanced vision; regenerative healing factor; master hand-to-hand combatant, swordswoman, and markswoman
Tools & weapons: Godslayer (sword), a jeweled switchblade, relentless determination

The master assassin trained at the hands of her adoptive father, Thanos, to become the most feared killer in the galaxy. A superior fighter even by her training, there is virtually no fight she’s ever entered into in which she hasn’t walked out alive – and the other person dead. She prefers to use her sword, Godslayer, and is virtually unbeatable with it in her hand, but if disarmed, she’s also a formidable hand-to-hand combatant.

Matchup #1: Thor, God Of Thunder VS. Drax The Destroyer

(WINNER: Thor)

DRAX

Ring name: The Destroyer

Powers & abilities: Superhuman speed, strength, durability, accelerated healing, and an ability to sense when Thanos is near.
Tools & weapons: A pair of knives (unknown origin and material), endless amounts of rage

Drax may be something of a one-note fighter (think: stabbity stab stab) but he is relentless in his aim to destroy and can shake off an untold amount of damage, such is the fury that drives him. If you can get out of the way of his knives, you’ve probably got a good shot at surviving (if he doesn’t hunt you down), but if you’re in melee range, look out.
