Gwyneth Paltrow's Last Marvel Movie Will Be 'Avengers: Endgame'

Well, we can’t say we didn’t see this coming.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who for the last 11 years has played Marvel’s Pepper Potts, told Variety that she plans to retire from the Marvel Cinematic Universe following her stint in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.

“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” Paltrow, 46, told the trade magazine this week. The Oscar-winning actress went on to say, “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [‘Iron Man’ director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.”

Now, intrepid Marvel fans might be reading through the tea leaves at Paltrow’s comment regarding how she is “a bit old to be in a suit.” Credible-ish rumors circulated online since the release of Avengers: Infinity War have indicated that Paltrow could don a suit in Endgame and become Rescue, her comic book equivalent. The theory (which you should take with the usual salt grains) is that Potts, last seen planning a wedding with Tony Stark in Infinity War, will have taken over the Iron Man mantle post-The Snap and has assumed Avengers duties in the absence of the MCU’s most famous “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.”

The last time Pepper put on a full Stark Tech suit was in 2013’s Iron Man 3. And if fans don’t get their wish to see her go full Rescue in Endgame, Paltrow hasn’t ruled out the possibility of coming back from retirement at some point. She told Variety that a cameo in future movies, or appearances via flashbacks, are possible.

“I feel honored to be a part of something that people are so passionate about,” she said. “Of course, if they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?’ I will always be there if they need me.”
